Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Hey guys
Anyone have info on this product here?
http://www.hdgamingpro.com/index.php/Ga ... nched.html
I was looking to pick up an XRGB when I stumbled onto this thing. Seems very good but not sure.
Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm interested in knowing how the lag issue is with this product on an HDTV.
Thanks
Jimmy

There is a thread in the hardware forum about the good and the bad of the HDBox Pro. Mainly the vertically scrolling line of doom.

I'm such an idiot.... I totally forgot about the hardware section :s
I hope a mod can move this into the correct section.
Thanks

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
woah. i've been looking for something like this that would do ypbpr/s-video upscaling. my ps2 and dreamcast look like crap on my 720p tv. only thing i'm wondering about is the cabling. do they include a cable that will adapt to their goofy socket or will i have to make my own?
fake edit: answered my own question. comes with a Ypbpr cable. guess i'm ordering one when i get paid this week. unless someone has an arguement against this product.

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Here's a msg Fudoh sent me via PM when I asked him
"Hi,
yes, it's based on the same chipset, so expect the same quality. Just has HDMI output instead of VGA and a built in RGB to YUV transcoder. Still *most likely* no support for 240p support though (= Saturn, PS1, SNES, MD won't work).
If you don't mind though, why not email them and ask about Scart support for those older systems. Maybe somebody actually tried it one...."
Update: I took the plunge and have just picked this converter off Ebay. I'll post my mini review when I get a chance.

Please do. Especially let us know if it will work with old consoles' RGB and if the Vertically Scrolling Line of Doom is present.

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
I e-mailed them and was able to get the manual for the scart to hdmi box.
Looks like it sends audio to the monitor through the HDMI port and may accept composite input through the Scart port maybe.
Anyways here is the manual link.

The manual is on their website. I got the HD Scart Box in from them already last week but I need a converter for the plug.
Just waiting on that and the scart RGB cables for my Dreamcast and I'm all set to test things out.
I'll write a review in a new thread to let everyone else know how it performs.

Edit: I just checked to be sure and the one he gave me is a newer version. It has more pages and details about the scart pinout they are using.
Here is what he sent me. He mentioned that it was modified and not available yet. Not sure if that means online or not. But anyways would love to hear what you find. I would love to swap out my system setup for this when i get my new lcd screen this weekend. Thanks!

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Quick question.Shelcoof,
Where did you get if from and how much was it? I saw it on ebay from a vendor that was only selling Coosis stuff. Maybe that was their online store?

I got mine from ebay from the coosis seller. I didn't want to bother with their website.drewmantrivia wrote:Quick question.Shelcoof,

cost me like 145$ Canadian. What bothered me was that they never bothered replying back to me about several questions I had.
Edit:
I just got the plug adapter and am just testing out what works.
My Saturn is working with the Scart RGB Cables but I am having problems though. The signal keeps disconnecting for no reason. I can emulate this by pulling out the scart cables from the HD Box. I'm not sure if anyone knows what the problem is?
Is it the cables? Or the Saturn system or the HDBox dealing with the Saturn signal?
All my other Scart Cables work fine for the WII and PS2.
Can anyone else help?
Thanks a bunch
Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
The HDBoxPro (and most of it's clones) are NOT compatible with CGA/RGB/240p signals. It's a known problem. The PS2 encodes 240p on a 480i carrier signal, so you can at least play PS1 games in 240p on a PS2 through the HDBoxPro (and clones).
Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Hey Tobi
I knew the HDBox Pro is incompatible with 240p signals but when I tried my Saturn with my HD Box, it does work.
You can see clear images for minutes, but sometimes it randomly disconnects and reconnects which is annoying at times. During the time it displays images everything looks really sharp and clear.
There was a time I was playing Panzer Dragoon Zwei's first episode full through until the problem occurred.
So if your telling me this is the problem then okay gotcha
Thanks for replying
Jimmy
Edit: I was able to connect my old Playstation One to the HD Box I have. I got a game working on the PSX as well.

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
I was also able to get the HD Box Pro to work with some older consoles. I tried it with Saturn, Playstation, and Dreamcast consoles via custom RGB cables. I first fed the RGBs signals to an old Kramer FC-4042 RGB to component converter, and then fed the component signals into the HD Box Pro. The images were completely stable on all these consoles, and they look very nice - just like the PS2 games. Perhaps it was the particular RGB to component converter that I was using? I don't know if that would make a difference.
Normally, I use the RGB to component converter so that I can feed the signals to a Videon Omega processor, but since the connections are the exact same, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it on the HD Box Pro, and I was surprised it actually worked.

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Mine accepts SCART RGB Cables so I tested it out and it worked too. All consoles I tried worked including the very old PSX system and Saturn.
I think it has something to do with either my Saturn or RGB cable. I don't think the HDBox is doing it.
I"m gonna have to find a 2nd saturn to test out my theory and a new pair of RGB cables too.

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Interesting! Still I know at least half a dozen users who have tested their Saturn with genereric RGB to component convertes (CYP etc) and it never worked (same dropouts you describe). With RGB signals there's such a wide range of different sync signals and timings that there's on guarantee that a certain system might work. The Kramer unit mentioned might produce a "cleaner" component signal than others do.....

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Hey Fudoh,
I get my Saturn and most of my older game systems to work just fine on the HDbox Pro. I run them through a Jrok 4.1 RGBs to component board. I have 2 different sync cleaners or a bypass to deal with some odd sync issues I've come across. Works like a champ.
I was hoping to get the Coosis box to get my setup down to 1 box instead of doing 2 to get RGB stuff on my TV.

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
hey drew
Just wait a bit for me to fully test out mine before buying yours. This might save you from being disapointed.
Very quick and brief impressions at first.
Pros
It's working with all the consoles I've used so far
- Saturn (unknown problem)
- PSX
- PS2
- Wii
looks excellent no screen terring or line of doom
Simple plug and play that is it
Cons
There is delay... for many they won't care because it is very minor. For those very very nit picky people it maybe a problem but.... I'll have to research this further.
I'll write up a full review once I get all my cables in.
I'm not as experienced as Fudoh but I'll do my best to help out.

Anyone still interested in a more detailed review of this Converter? If not I'll just forget about it.
Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
I wonder how it behaves for 50hz PAL games... displaying them in 60hz is awfull, but I see there is a 75hz option, not perfect but nice
can you please provide some shots of the OSD menu/options Shelcoof ?
the SCART edition looks nice for all older consoles...

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
Hey keropi
There is no menu option. It's just plug and play.
Games are all scaled to 720p.
It's as simple as that. You'll use your HDTV to adjust everything else.
It's quit easy and looks really nice.
I've done some lag research with the timer thing. I get 1.1-1.5 frames of lag with the unit. That's about 20mil-seconds I believe. If I'm wrong some one correct me.
Hope that helps
If you want in game shots I can do those as well but it will take some time

Re: Coosis HD Universal Converter: Any feedback on this at all?
I am thinking to get the scart edition, since it has a scart (doh!) and a component input... I have scart cables for my saturn , multimega , SNES , DC , infact all consoles that don't support component
the lag is pretty low IMHO
you might wonder of why not to plug scart devices directly to the lcd/tv set... the truth is that for some strange reason, scart is overlooked in most sets and looks awfull. Almost every time you get better results transoding scart to component/vga... pure BS if you ask me

Hey you know
My friends and I were playing Guilty Gear XX Accent Core last night and he was kicking my ass told me he didn't notice any delays at all. I guess it was only me because we tested it out on both connections one through the HDBox the other straight to the HDTV.
I posted a thread on trade section to sell my HDBox lol. If your interested let me know we can work something out.

Well I just got this converter in last week and even though it performs amazingly well visually, I don't want it.
I'm told that it's nearly identical to the HDBoxPro with the same chipset. Here are the specs
http://www.hdgamingpro.com/index.php?pa ... &Itemid=37
It accepts RGB Scart, and Component and outputs it at 720p via HDMI.
My reason for not wanting it is due to the lag. I've tested the HDBox on my Samsung HDTV and there is a 1.1 frame delay. I know for many of you gamers, that is very small but when I was testing the HDBox's delay I decided to test out my HDTV's delay as well and when using component 480i source to do the test I realized that the delay on my HDTV was only 0.5 frames. That's pretty awesome.
I've tested numerous games
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (480p)
Street Fighter III: Third Strike (480i)
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution (480i)
Ibara (480i)
Mushi (480i)
Battle Stadium D.O.N (480i)
All played perfectly and looked stunning. I was able to pull off combos, dodge hell blazing bullets and Parry just as well as if I was playing on a Standard TV.
BTW: I've been able to hook all my systems up to the unit including my Sega Saturn, Playstation One and they both looked amazingly clear.
Despite all this though, because my Samsung HDTV has very little delay I'm gonna look past the enhanced graphics and stick with straight up connection to my HDTV.
Now here is the deal.
I'm open to offers, please check my wanted section on this site. I also have good feedback on there as well. I'm willing to sell and trade or do a mix up of both. Just PM me for more info
