Need help: Playstation 2 on an LCD monitor

Post by GameCop »

I've been looking for a decent and affordable VGA box or converter so I can hook up the Playstation 2 to my LCD monitor. All the ones I've found online (i.e. Play-Asia), the reviewers always mention picture problems. I want a solution that has no lag with good picture quality and can display all games (not just ones that can output at a certain resolution).

Any ideas? I never thought it would be so difficult to find a decent solution.

I kind of have the same dilemma, and I don't know anything about the subject but maybe this is worth looking at?

The x2vga seems like a good product, but I won't purchase it because of this ....
Can all the gaming consoles and games work with the X2VGA 2?

The major gaming consoles on the market, such as the Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Wii, GameCube, Xbox 360, and Xbox, all support 480p or above modes in hardware. Therefore, as long as the game itself also supports one of 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p modes, it can work with the X2VGA 2.The general situation of the modes supported by each gaming console is as follows.

Playstation 3 - All games support 720p or 1080p mode and can work with the X2VGA 2.
Playstation 2 - Most games can only support 480i mode. Therefore, only those that support 480p, or 1080i mode can work with the X2VGA 2.

I want a product that works with all games at high quality on an LCD monitor. :(

Seems like my only affordable option under $100 is the HD Box Pro? How bad is the input lag (i.e. with fighting games)? I also read about the Vdigi, but I don't think it supports 480i games for PS2 or they don't sell the model that did anymore?

I've tried a few "affordable" upscanners in the past, they turned out to be rather crap. To be fair, this was several years ago and I don't know if low-end chipsets have improved since then, but in the end, the cost of these multiple units added up, and I just bought a 2nd-hand XRGB-2 and have never looked back. Expensive but worth every penny.

Right now I use a combination of the XRGB-2 and an early variant/precursor of the HDBox Pro and that covers pretty much every gaming system I own, lag-free and with great picture quality.

With all due respect, I honestly don't see the point in paying so much (over $100) for a converter. With that amount of money, I can buy a large used 27'' or 33'' tube TV that would play the PS2 perfectly.

you might want to take a look at the VBOX HD-360 ... it takes component input and outputs a 60hz VGA signal. It will take all component inputs , from 480i to 1080p and it does work with PS2 , I have tested it with my PAL one. The only problem you might face is if you use a pal console (50hz input -> 60hz output , will produce jerky movement) other than that the picture is EXCELLENT

edit: also unless I am wrong, the device described in this thread will work too...

i could pick up a decent, large CRT TV for £25, but my main consideration is space, convenience and style. i have my lcd wall mounted on a 360 swivel. easy tate! CRTs look S**t, take up far too much room, are difficult to rotate and are awful to transport. i move about a fair bit you see.

I use this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... AQ:US:1123

it converts the sync-on-green VGA to plain VGA. this will only work for games that support progressive scan, natively or with the Xploder disc (now $10 at gamestop)

looks f'ing awesome.
