Fantastic effects. Star Wars and Final Fantasy lovers will like it alot, since it borrows heavily from both camps. The Alien world comprises of what looks like CGI, but done so realistically you'd hardly notice it wasn't real.

Its got some Panzer Dragoon esque battles in there too.

It does look really good. Though the avatar looks like a 10 foot tall blue version of my goofy buddy..

I hope the story is "there" So many of the 3D movies put out have had so much more put into the effects than the script. But this will definitely something I go watch in the theater.

I am weary, of the potential preachiness that lies here. The magical elf people are indians, you see. And the trailer doesn't say FROM THE DIRECTOR OF TERMINATOR FRAKIN' TWO on it, but rather the director of some obscure art film no one's seen.

Maybe they should make a remake of Terminator 2, except this time everyone's a robot.

PS3 does not support quicktime and I like to view the trailers on the PS3 in 1080p to see what the eventual blu ray might look like. My laptop doesn't cut 1080p..

By "obscure art film that no one's seen", are you referring to the highest grossing film of all time? The one that won 11 oscars?

Okay, I admit it was an odd choice for them to name drop Titanic for what at first glance appears to be an action-heavy movie, but there have always been two sides to Cameron's skill as a film maker. His visual genius is the part that's most readily apparent, but he also takes the action movie template--the most cynical product of Hollywood--and injects it with an emotional heart and characters the viewer engages with. That's what really sets his films apart from the usual blockbusters.

Its not in the store, you have to download it from the link above. (hd-trailers.net).

Then click where it says "MP4 PS3 encodes" Then "1080p" then SAVE Target or whatever you want to do.

OK, place your bets now:

Which will be worse, Cameron's Avatar, or Shyamalan's Avatar? I'm thinking alcohol isn't strong enough to solve this problem.

Goddamn, why does this thing look like Delgo?

The initial link was unavailable when i first saw this thread, so i youtubed Avatar and unknowingly watched the parody version with colored stick men. Made for a huge WTF moment! Of course now i can't find it.

The real video is very impressive. The technology could open up great new possibilities for lifelike humanoid aliens in film.

Shyamalan's. Is this even a contest? Shyamalan's by a lightyear.

The fact we're getting a horrendous live action movie instead of a new series or miniseries = just what I wanted. Really.

Really.

The teaser/trailer looks.. meh. I don't want to have video game associations all the time when watching a movie, but this looks horrible in that aspect. Then again, James Cameron usually knows how to tell a good story, so maybe I'll get past the cgi-overdose and Star Wars Episode I-II flashbacks and end up enjoying this.

Btw, I saw a demonstration of Ubisoft's Avatar the video game in GamesCom, Cologne on Saturday and it looked quite promising and fun for an fps. Nice 3D effect with glasses, especially when enemies are attacking from a distance. Graphics were colorful and lush, not the "ordinary" gray/brown. Still.. it's just an fps --> can't be too interesting. Oh yeah, you get to play as human or one of these blue alien guys, fighting humans and their mechas and all.
Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

I saw a pic of the blue character's on Rotten Tomatoes and laughed out loud. Not like "HA HA!", but I did chuckle. They look kind of goofy.

I was pretty disapointed to be honest. It had been hyped up for a long while, then we finally got to see it, it was a bit of a let down.

The CG is obvious, but it was only a trailer so hopefully that is the only excuse...I'll still probably catch it when it comes out though
