Most stupid ticket...
Most stupid ticket...
I'm still steaming about this...
So, I executed a 'rolling stop' with no cops in sight, in a city where they generally have better things to worry about than petty offenses, but lately the mayor has been on a 'we need to crack down on everyone to raise more money for the city' stance. So here's where things get crazy--there is no cop at the intersection to bust me as I shit all over their stupid ineffective stop sign. No, he is hiding in the doorway of a store, and acually runs out and flags me down.
What the fuck is next? Cops in the shrubbery? Cops in the woodpile?
Another $75 unwillingly donated to the city. Of course, all things considered, I've probably saved more than that in gas over the year by not coming to a complete stop. Rolling stops probably help conserve fuel world wide and might even cut down on pollution.
I hope my $75 goes to pay for something good...

Moved where?
Oh hell, I figure getting a ticket once a year is just par for the course.

Here they're trying to generate revenue by writing lots of parking tickets. You can constantly see the Department of Parking and Traffic little scooters prowling around, marking wheels, etc.
The only corruption I encountered was when I went to vacation in China. Gave a couple cartons of cigarettes, and lo and behold we were at the front of the line.

Us peeps who live in Texas know about "rolling stops" all to well.
The thing is, a "rolling stop" isn't really considered a "stop"...but more like a "Yield" instead.
Then agian, we still have the death penalty here as well, and too many rolling stop violations and you're up for a public hanging.
"Hiding in a doorway"...man thats crass.

Damn, you guys have some corrupt cops living in your area. The cops where I live generally don't give a shit about minor crap like that. Both of my tailights don't work at night (and since I'm too lazy I never got them fixed, but I'm getting rid of my POS Volvo in a few months anyway) but I never got pulled over for anything. Well, I did once, but that was in a college campus and the officer let me off with a warning.
Let's face it, most cops are assholes. You'd be one too, if you had their job. I bet it's tough being a cop.

Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
Are you serious? A cop doing his job constitutes a "corrupt cop" now? Goodness people, breaking the law is breaking the law, if the cop was sitting out in broad daylight you obviously wouldn't commit the violation in front of them now would you. The whole rationalization of unlawful behavior and deflection of guilt by people these days is just sickening. Do I sometimes run red lights, roll through stop signs, and exceed the speed limit, of course, but that's the risk I run and I have gotten tickets before I definitely didn't cry like a little baby when I got them. But of course reason why I got tickets is because the city is trying to make money off me, even though they've never ticketed someone for not breaking the law.FatCobra wrote:Damn, you guys have some corrupt cops living in your area.
I know this is not really related to the topic at hand, but I need to get this off my chest (and believe me, I have gotten many chips off my shoulder already). But some police men are indeed grade S a-holes at least here in Az.
My friend Marielle and I got pulled over (Ok, she had a crappy car, the plates hadn't been renewed due to the lack of money.) So that's fine. What really pissed me off was the fact that since I wasn't carrying any ID, the cop started to play tough guy (I never carry any ID that would cause me to get screwed should I lose it. Maybe just a student card from a cheap ass private school here.) and said he had found some record of me doing some crap, to see if I cracked under the pressure. Upon my response that I had never had ever done anything illegal to the best of my knowledge, he replied he couldn't believe I was mexican and had a clean record, because that was just plain impossible. Go effin' figure.
That made me angry all right, but more than that, sad. It's because of people like him that a certain ethnic group gets vilified, and it's always them darn whites/blacks/mexicans/asians/arabs/natives/french/canadians or russians or jewish or elbonians and you know how the banter goes.
Can't we all just get f-ing along?
Rant over. Sorry for the derail

Cops have been good to me. I just do what they say, give them what they want and I am usually away in less than 5 mins with a warning.
Once I had plates out of date by 7 months and got stopped. The policeman said he only noticed because they changed the pattern on the plate several months before so I must of been using out of date plates. Well, I just went with the flow and he told me that normally even for that offense I would of got off but since it was 7 months over due he had to give me a ticket.
I paid the ticket and life goes on.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Same here, that's why I was rather taken off guard. You get out of the city into the suburbs and shit changes, but I was rather surprised to see anything like that here.FatCobra wrote: The cops where I live generally don't give a shit about minor crap like that.
I've never seen a warning here. If they are going to bother pulling you over, they're gonna give you a ticket. No messin' around I guess.jp wrote:

I've never really had a "bad experience" with a cop, but I'm horribly unlucky with them...I rarely speed or anything like that when I drive, but the second I mess up there's a cop right there to catch me. One time in particular I remember was when I happened upon a van doing 20 in the left lane, and I was late to where I was going...I took about 5 seconds to zoom past him on the right, and there was the officer. Another time I made an illegal left turn in the middle of the night, on a deserted road...again, one was right there to nail me. Those are the only 2 tickets I ever got (I was once also stopped for a failed inspection sticker [for a taillight that had gone out, go figure], but for once escaped unticketed because I had the inspection printout with me) , and while I can't say I didn't deserve either, they were enough to get me sent to a state driving course, right alongside guys with DUI records and such...I can only wonder how many really crazy drivers are out there who have done a lot worse than me, but have never gotten ticketed for it.
Case in point, my sister: she's totaled one car (a Volvo, on top of that) and has had to get the front end of her current one replaced because of accidents she's had, but never once has she had a single point on her license. Meanwhile my insurance is going through the roof because of that jerk in the van. Rrgh.

Master of TNL just moved to one of those shitass towns wherein their only source of revenue is cops pulling people over for doing 36 in a 35 and stuff like that. As a huge stoner, that scares the shit outta me.
My stupidest ticket is along similar lines. Through no fault of my own (I wasn't driving) we got pulled over two New Year's Eves ago. I had six grams of weed in a plastic container that seals with a fancy o-ring and is smellproof, whilst my dunderheaded friend had his in a sandwich bag inside of a fucking sock. So the cop smelt it right away and said we better give it up. I always stay cool (no way are they waiting all night for a search warrant on NYE) but my friend practically started crying. He gave up his bag and then they searched me and found mine. Okay, I was breaking the law and the cops were doing what they do. Heck, they didn't even arrest us because it was New Year's.
Here go the stupid part: When I got my paperwork in the mail I found out that I was being charged with possession of 2.3 grams. What in the fuck happened to the other 3.7 grams? It certainly doesn't take a 40 sack to test for THC content. Yes, the cops stole my shit and smoked it.
Stupidest ticket ever. Hell, I'd have smoked 'em out just because it was New Year's. Selfish bastards!
