Shmupmobile spotted in Palo Alto

Post by louisg »

I'm not sure this is on-topic, but it does involve shmups: I spotted this driving around Palo Alto today:

Pretty neat, right? I wonder who owns that thing.

He needs to buy another one in black.
Or paint half of it black.

I do wonder who that is, and has not come to my shmupmeets before?

Ah, another one of those fellow shmuppers with a pair of sharp eagle eyes spotting an Ikaruga vanity license plate. It surely isn't me. ^_~

A half white/half black Ikaruga color scheme would befitting on this one of a kind shmup vanity license plate and it's already been taken. (Unless you want to bribe the owner out of it.) Lol ^_~

This thread makes me wonder if there are other California vanity license plates with an actual shmup name title embossed on them?

Of course, you have to pay a yearly fee for the special privlege of a vanity plate anyways. And does the owner of the Ikaruga license plate have another car/truck with the intials of "RSG" for completeness? Might as well see if the vanity plate of "Cave" is already taken or not -- that is another one-of-a-kind name to have/own as well. Only in the Golden State, are such shmup vanity license plates possible.

If you check out Nevada's license plates, they are usually endowed with three letters and three numbers altogther at best.

Cool plate, but I definitely agree - half black half white would be the way to go.

On the subject of other license plate ideas:

"GRADIUS," obviously. "RAIDEN" seems pretty obvious as well. Basically any shmup with a single-word title of seven letters or less would work in California, Illinois, or other states that allow up to seven characters in plates.
"R-TYPE" and a few variants work well. If you were able to use certain symbols in vanity plates, you could fit R-TYPE Delta into seven characters.
"CAVESTG" would probably be better than just "CAVE," as far as people understanding it. The former screams "shoot-'em-up fan" to those who know the acronym, while the latter could belong to a spelunker or something.
"MMATRIX," possibly, but that'd be a bit tougher to get.
"GAREGGA" would be pretty cool.

AGYLDRB would be too esoteric, needs one more letter.
DONPCHI would work...
SHMUPER
CAVEFAN
KETSUI
MSHIHIME
DGFEVER
BEESTRM (only for the true believers)

VASARA
GGAWING
GUNBIRD
RAYCRYS
SKULFNG
AROFGTER

This is fun

TOUHOU

Sorry, had to. I mean, I'm surprised it didn't show up yet.

Anyway, you could have:

RAIZING
DIMAHOO
GDARIUS
TWINBEE
ESPRDE (or something similar)
ESPGDA (or something similar)
DDPDOJ
PULSTAR

etc.

Reserve me one with RTYPEΔ. Would be awesome, especially if the car is painted with the colours of the R-13 or the R-X.

If this old thread is to be believed, either there's more than one "Ikaruga" plate out there, or neoalpha put the same plates on a different car.

VARTH
PROGEAR
IBARA

I'd rather spend my money on games (also keep my anonymity when driving)

Also, terrible plate, how about TOAPLAN or RAIZING

I figured it was so obvious that I didn't need to bother listing it with "basically any seven-letter title". Completely forgot about TwinBee, though!

Some more (basically just grabbing any title I can think of that would fit the format - some of these would be pretty undesirable):
PHOENIX
TTROOPR
SLPHEED
SINVDRS
XEVIOUS
V-V
GRVITAR
SSSAGA
0 WING
TUMIKI
GUWANGE
DTHSMLS
IRIDION
NNOSTRY
BATSUGN

Unfortunately, no states allow eight characters, or else you could use CHOANIKI.

Twice this year I've come across a crappy little car with the plate R.TY5E round my workplace. Gotta get a pic of it.

The weird thing is that it can't be a private plate. Or very unlikely, as its on a crappy small car :| .

At my old workplace two of my colleagues had STG and NMK respectively as licence plates (Swedish plates has three letters and digits). I tried to explain, but i'm afraid that they didn't grasp the awesomeness.

I once saw a silver car with decals that said "東方Project" and had a picture of Reimu. I really wanted to get a picture of it but didn't have enough time.

You sure? I just checked the Virginia DMV, and as long as you pick the Passenger Standard-Blue/White, you can have 7.5 characters [.5 being a space]. Maryland does up to 7 [also available! *nudge*KIKEN]. You can have the same plate as someone else if you're registered in a different state.

I saw the "IKARUGA" Z33 once on 101 S near Palo Alto. Even wrote about it on my twitter. lol.

He should sell the vanity plate separately on eBay...

I dunno... I just had a dream of a GMC Sonoma with a DUX plate and then, after I woke up - BAM! There it was, parked just outside my house. :o
