Using paypal for purchases from the trading station

Is there anyway I can be covered by using paypal in case I did end up dealing with a scammer. I know that when I use ebay I can file disputes and I have a good chance of getting my money back, but if I was to do dealings outside of ebay is there anyway to get a refund from paypal if a deal went wrong? Thank You

using non-officially approved selling points like this and most other fora probably means NO security in the sense of payback when deal goes wrong.

Mostly a question of faith.
If one has got no reputation anywhere at all and offers something that's too good to be true....always avoid.

If the seller has some feedback, still always consider the amount of money you're spending vs the reputation of the seller.

I personally had about 1 or 2 bad experiences via fora in over 100 transactions and since they tend to offer better deals than on auction sites it's been well worth it.

Just use a reputable credit card and you'll be covered for 30/45/60/90 days after purchase. It's pretty dumb to rely on PayPal considering all the seller has to do is take out the money and you're screwed on everything outside of buyer protected eBay items.

the only way to be 'some what' secure is to always send items tracked with a number. Paypal dont care if you have proof of postage or not they will award the buyer the cash eithr way. As they never dispute the fact of if you got the item or not. its always down to if the item made it to the buyer with proof of them signing for it on there end.

Even then the buyer could use a credit card within paypal to pay and then at a later date force a return credit card payment which then in turn forces paypal to take the money from your account even if your in minus or zero credit and if you dont pay or put cash in the account they hand it over to a collection agency and they will call you every day threaten you with legal action and just make your life a fucking pain in the ass. Oh yeah and they put your Paypal account on hold unitl you sort it out thus fucking up any chance to get some sales in to make up for the scammer. Your never 100% safe when selling on paypal even if you follow all there rules. But sending via tracked P&P ONLY insures people wont take advantage and after they get there item decide they would like thecash back too.
the only way to defend yourself against this is reporting this as fraud to the police. thats time consuming and a lot of stress which you have to ask yourself is it worth it for the value of the item for which your trying to claim for.

If your selling something of low value with little resale value like shirts, paint, games below 50GBP or a bispoke item like coloured beads (yeah i knowi know but there examples give me a break) then your laughing chances are people wont claim on items like this. if your mark up is nice you can take a couple of hits even if 10% fucked you over making false claims (im at less than 1% on my shirts for faluse claims) you would still be making a nice profit and it would be ok. But high risk products like TV, consoles and anything with a medium to high value or anything which can be sold on easily your inviting scammers to fuck you over. There are other payment methods out there so if its high value items i sugest you shop around and make sure you do the math becuase credit card systems could be taking a whole lot of your cash along with a set ammout each month just for a credit card system or an online shop without the need of paypal. my avrage sale is about 30GBP so the evils of paypal is something I am willing to put up with until I get a little bigger and I can negoiate with one of the other online payment companies to get a deal cheaper than paypal.

Scammers are a the worst joke in the world and are the bane of the online seller even people who would normally be pretty honest with sales give them pc and a nt connection and they ratonalize becuase they cant look you in the eye they can steal from you becuase your just a company. Well your not just a company, its your company and you need to pay bills and put food on the table. Anyone who tries to stop me from doing that is going to feel the sharp edge of my wrath (jokes)

Anyway, I'd think that dealing with the regulars here would be much safer than buying off eBay or Craigslist. I can't remember there ever being a scam by a regular (although some people got butthurt over posters and tee-shirts and the like though).

Sometimes when I buy something using paypal I put in the description field a sort of written contract agreement. When the seller accepts the payment he must be agreeing to the terms and conditions of the contract in the description.


For example -

This payment of $XX.XX is for one Jamma PCB of ESP Galuda, with insurance shipped via EMS in a sturdy box with tracking. The seller should only accept this payment if s/he agrees to the terms of this statement.

If then the seller send the item via airmail and it gets lost, or the goods arrive in a bubble wrapped plastic bag and get damaged, you have grounds to pursue a refund.

Its on record and it cannot be deleted. Obviously this is only applicable if you have tracking/insurance. Since its pointless writing it if the person doesn't want those items.

Best bet, cover yourself.

Right now I just have a "personal" account. Does anyone know if you upgrade to a Premier account if you are no longer able to send and receive paypal in "gift" form? (fee dodging)

you should be able to....sending "gifts" really is a matter of where the sender is....not all regions can send gifts....and ive also heard that on international payments sometimes even if you send as gift the recipient might still get fees

might i ask why you are thinking of switching to a premier account? afaik the only real differences are the number of credit card payments you can make/receive(i could be wrong on that...my memory is foggy on the subject)
