Battle Garegga question

In Battle Garegga for the saturn, it seems that each ship has a different name and colour scheme depending on what button you press when you select it (A, B, C or ABC).

Do this affect the way the ship controls? Strength of shot, speed etc?

I checked on Gamefaqs for a Garegga FAQ but to my surprise there wasn't one.

Yes, AFAIK they are modified variations of the ships, (with different names?) Check out the BG Strategy guide here :

A / B / C selection determines hitbox size and speed. A = default both. B = higher speed. C = smaller hitbox. A+B+C or let the timer expire = higher speed and smaller hitbox.
