Batsugun Is Awesome!

Post by Raizen1984 »

Recently picked up the Saturn version on a whim, and holy shit this game is sweet! Pure shooting bliss from even before Cave! Anyone that hasn't played this yet, needs to. Go download it for MAME or something if you can't afford it. It's better than sex. Seriously.

So how much do you love Batsugun?

The main drawback in the MAME version is imperfect graphics and no sound (until now)
Still able to working awesomely, though.

Yeah, it's a ton of fun. If you go the Mame route, download the soundtrack (or some suitably awesome music) and play it in the background.

There's SOME sound in the MAME version, but a lot of the SFX are missing. When/if someone decaps a Batsugun board we'll probably get sound and/or music. (Read: probably never because MAME devs are lazy and only give a shit about hentai mahjong games)

Batsugun for MAME is an abortion.

I have the Batsugun Special board, which I pieced together myself. It's a really fun game. No bullshit, just common sense shooting. I really like Special in comparison to the original. The Saturn version is one which I've never bothered with but they're apparently the same. I'm looking forward to spending more time with this in the future.

This post could not be less informative, sorry.

I have to agree with fellow shmupper Elixir with a Toaplan produced Batsugun PCB...it is ace, especially if you have access to one with both regular and Special version eproms on one PCB setup. Beats having to switch between eproms physically. Just flick a switch as to what version you want to play and fire it up. Easy as pie, thanks to a bit of electronic switching magic. ^_~

Just stay away from the bootlegged Batsugun PCBs out there in the wilds and you'll do just fine with an original Toaplan one. ^_~

It's a fantastic game. If you love it so much, first go 1CC it. Pretty easy until the end where it's more moderate; should still just take a week or two's time. And then, if you want to do more, clear all of the Special Ver.'s loops. And if you're into score and love the game that much, you can eventually try and go for the counter-stop.

I spent quite a lot of time with ithe normal mode during the last week. Will probably give special mode a go once I clear normal. The only negative thing I have to say is that in order to score high your only real option is to milk Jupiter. Apart from that, it's a wonderful game.

That's my only complaint too. That being said, the insane quantity of suicide bullets on the consecutive loops is really a beautiful thing to behold.

Batsugun Special Loop 2 is the reason why I voted this game top in this years annual Shmups top STG's of all time :D

I love the joy of seeing an impenatratable wave of aimed bullets, then jerking left then right again, and slipping through the resulting gap. Magic.

Great game indeed - not without its irritating quirks (the silly quarter-circle thing most notable among them), but still an essential play for any shmupper, both the "normal" and "special" versions (though I personally prefer the latter).

Batsugun is in my top 5, everything about it is just fun. I love the insane weaponry, it's great that you can shoot that much without obstructing your view of enemy bullets, I think it's good color selections.

That's the kind of stuff you could probably never find out it exists in the game. But then some pro-players shows it to everyone, and it makes you feel like "Oh.. this is so STUPID. I don't like this game anymore"

Thank you this forum for spoiling every Raizing game to me. :D

There are a couple of spots where destroying an object while making the right joystick movement reveals a pink piggie. (the EXP-granting kind) The tower by the airstrip in st2 and the center of the network thingy in st3 are the ones I can think of now; look at the ST for the details.

I love Batsugun PCB so much that I personally own both an original Toaplan one and a bootlegged one. Lol ^_~

The bootlegged Batsugun is an interesting one since upon booting it up, it displays the "For Japan Use Only" text on the main screen title. It does output sound and BGM tunes properly as well. ^_~

I've read some horror stories of a couple of fellow shmuppers who thought that they were buying a geniune Batsugun PCB but got shafted with a bootlegged one instead because the second-hand arcade PCB shop thought that said PCB was an original one. So it is buyer beware when it comes to buying a "barebones" Batsugun PCB these days.
