Best Splatterhouse game?

Post by jp »

So I got into this Splatterhouse kick recently (with 2 and 3 only), and I must say, I'm falling in love with the series all over again. The plot is just excellent, the art direction is gruesomely awesome, the gameplay... could have had a little bit more, but its still solid.

So yes, what would you guys say is your favorite entry into the series?

I voted for Splatterhouse 2. I don't really remember 1 all that well, Wanpaku Graffiti, while amusing, was kind of annoying, and I really didn't like the change in gameplay that occured in 3. Also, I always thought 2 had the best bosses/music.

I'm voting for 2 as well. I loooove 1 (even with some of its faults), but I think 2 is a better game overall. I played 1 on mame the other day (ahh, the memories) and I'm going to play 2 again this weekend. Funny you posted this topic today.

Wanpaku Grafitti is fun, but you seem to move a little farther than you intend when you press on the control pad... which detracts from it some for me. Still a fun game. 3 is a decent beat-em-up, but I liked Splatterhouse a lot more as a really violent platformer...

Also, since you listed the systems these games came out on... Splatterhouse 1 has an M Towns Marty port as well. It's ungodly rare and expensive, but it does exist. :D

Over at Classic Gaming they have an awesome Splatterhouse fan page called Welcome to West Mansion. Take a look! [/url]

Splatterhouse Arcade, it's MUCH better than the downgraded graphically, missing several elements, and censored in the west PCE version.

I voted 3. I actually liked the change in gameplay and the graphics are just amazing.

I wish I could find Splatterhouse 2 or 3, I never seem to come across the carts anywhere.

Original all the way. 2 had too much green blood and part 3 was just too convoluted to get into. Keep it simple, keep it gory.

As the description says, best home version is the FM-Towns one.

It took me awhile to actually get into the series, but after playing it awhile, S2 really grew on me.

i loved the graphic style of the series (1 and 2 particularly), but never got into the games. the most vivid video game memory from childhood i have is from Splatterhouse. it's Rick painting a wall with an enemy, with the stick.

Oh NO! So violence in video games does have profound effects on children! Although I'm sure you never acted out your urges to splatter green-blooded monsters on walls with a stick while barefoot and wearing a strange mask...

splatterhouse 1 arcade by far, the others didn't have the same punch.
i used to play the hell out of it when it was in the arcades, and 1cc it. the nec port is ok but too many details are absent.
