Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
Been playing this for a while and wanted to know if this version has input lag. I cant really tell since i never owned the original. It seems a hair off to me. Thanks

Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
I notice input lag while playing Lords of Thunder on the Wii Virtual Console. However, I can feel input lag in nearly every VC game I have played. It doesn't matter if it's Sonic, Street Fighter II or Ninja Gaiden. They all feel slightly off; not to the point of breaking the games, but still annoying enough to notice.
I am surprised this isn't a bigger issue with people. If we are not just crazy, there must be others who feel the same.
To be clear about the setup, I am playing these games with the classic controller on an SDTV through component cables. My guess would be that the communication between the classic controller through the Wii Remote to the Wii is causing a slight delay.
I don't own a Wii myself, so I can't check other controller configurations. Does the lag still occur through only using the Remote? How about using a GameCube controller plugged into the console?

Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
What a coincidence, yesterday I got Winds of Thunder (Japanese name for Lords of Thunder) and also Gate of Thunder (this one is even better, imo), but for the PCEngine-CD. Apart from the nice heavy soundtrack, these two games are technically amazing, possibly the best I've seen in this console. I cannot believe how big some sprites are. If you really want to enjoy these games and do not have the console, try them with Magic Engine and an ArcadeVGA. The latest version of this emulator lets you run them in native resolution, so they look superb.
Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
If you're playing them on the VC on an HDTV, see if you have a mode that reduces the latency of your video input. I have a Toshiba (don't ask me the model number, some 42 inch one) and it has a "gaming mode" that lets it display non-HD signals without lag. In that mode I had no problems with lag in any game, without it I had very noticeable lag in a few. Mega Man 9 was nigh-unplayable without it.

Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
Well the first reply tells me it is a lag issue. Im afraid it is not a HD TV lag issue either. My Wii is in my kids room on a older 32" JVC CRT TV hooked up via S-Video. I have used both the Wii remote and the classic controller with no difference. The problem lies in the emulators themselves used to run the ROMS for TG-16 (Then again Ordyne runs tight). I have seen this with other console based emulators as well (Mednafen, Hugo). I feel it is a coding issue as the Wii can handle more sprite intensive games such as NEO GEO games. All the Metal Slugs run flawless as oppsed to the horrible laggy MS anthology on PS2. I wish the Devs would test these emus more for better accuracy. Magic Engine is the best TG-16 emulator, that arcade VGA sound tempting as this lag is annoying me. Cant we get a decent TG-16 emu here because these games can add up.

Don't have Lords of Thunder, but I haven't ever noticed any lag in Gate of Thunder. What I do find annoying is how LOUD the sound effects are. Were they like this in the original game? Because they completely prevent you from enjoying its nice soundtrack.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

they do feel a hair louder on the VC rom, but the original suffers from the same prob. Just maybe not quite as severely.MathU wrote:Don't have Lords of Thunder, but I haven't ever noticed any lag in Gate of Thunder. What I do find annoying is how LOUD the sound effects are. Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
Just started playing this on Wii VC again. I also fired up Magic Engine and Ootake for the PC. It seems this input lag is present on all emus. This is either game specific or non existant and its just me. I say this because i just purchased Gate of Thunder and there seems to be no lag despite coming from the same developer.
Does anybody here own the original game for the Duo and the VC game that could give comparison?

Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
I have both, the original and the Wii VC version and I played both numerous times over the past weeks. I wouldn't call the lag excessive, it's not noticeable right away, but I find myself player simply worse on the Wii version. While I easily play through the Duo version I find myself out of energy sooner or later on the Wii version - repeatedly.

Thanks for the reply, just for the hell of it i played Lords of Thunder on Fusion for Sega CD. Though this version is not as good it plays with no input lag that i can tell. It seems it is an emulation problem. It pisses me off because i really like this game and its being ruined by input lag. I would love to buy a Duo just for this game but they are really steep in price. I would be content with the VC version but the lag is killing me.

Trust me, you'll buy it just for Lords of Thunder and then keep buying more and more. Look here: (from this site)

Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
Just got this baby fired up and all i can say is wow! The composite on the PCE rivals that of a Saturn and PSX via S-video. Wait until i make a JROK encoder for this, holy shit is what i will be sayin. Off to play Lords and Gate of thunder

Re: Lords of Thunder on Wii VC
The original PC Engine Super CD-Rom2 game of "Winds of Thunder" has the cool background narration that the USA Turbo Duo version of Lords of Thunder is lacking. And WoT's instruction manual has some cool manga of the in-game characters as well. Can't say that with the TTI Turbo Duo version of LoT's instruction manual though.
Congrats on getting a PC Engine Duo-R, lawnspic...tis is only way to play them PC Engine games on real console hardware properly. ^_~
