Are all Hori Real Arcade Pro sticks the same?
Are all Hori Real Arcade Pro sticks the same?
Stupid question I know, but there seems to be many color varieties (and limited edition fighting game graphics). Some of the prices I'm seeing drastically differ and I'm in the market to buy one for the PS2. I'd like one with red buttons/balltop, but the arcana heart one is going for less than half the price. Is there a reason, or is that particular themed one cheap because the sticker is ugly and has pink buttons?

Re: Are all Hori Real Arcade Pro sticks the same?
Hori sticks branded with artwork from a game, regardless of looking nearly identical to a Real Arcade Pro, are NOT Real Arcade Pro sticks. Nearly every one of these branded sticks (I only know of two exceptions) uses generic Hori buttons soldered directly to a PCB, whereas mainline HRAPs wire their buttons to the pcb via quick disconnects. HRAPs are thus easier to swap buttons, since the branded Horis - including both Arcana Heart sticks - require tedious desoldering to do the same work.
Re: Are all Hori Real Arcade Pro sticks the same?
If it doesn't say Real Arcade Pro, the parts are all Hori. A normal HRAP has a Sanwa JLF stick and Hori buttons. SA(nwa; Special Addition) is always all-Sanwa. SE(imitsu; Special Edition) is always all-Seimitsu. Anyway, there are plenty of real HRAPs in Japan that have soldered Hori buttons. Basically, just avoid the licensed sticks. If you're paying more than $100-120 for a normal HRAP, you're paying a premium.

Thanks guys, you both answered all the questions I was wondering. Needless to say I'm going to avoid the Arcana Heart stick I was eyeing. It seems like the price of the good PS2 versions are becoming less common but still available in the $200 range. I guess I'll just be patient for now.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
