octogonal restrictor plates. can they compensate for 4way??

Im building a control panel with Seimitsu LS-32-01 joysticks. Im planning on playing classic early 80s arcade games, besides shmups, and as most of these are 4way built games, they tend to "not respond" when accidentally moving diagonally on a 8 way joystick. I know the LS-32s have an option to switch between 4way and 8way but I would like to avoid opening the control panel every now and then.

Was wondering if I got a octogonal restrictor gate, if this would help in this matter or if it would be a complete waste of money?

hmm you might be right. Just realised the one I was looking at was for the Sanwa JFL stick. But anyways, would it compensate for 4way?

To switch a JLF to 4-way you rotate the centre portion of the square gate. The octagonal gate is always 8-way.

I've never heard of an octogonal restrictor for an LS-32. I would think it would have to be a main guide replacement, and I've never seen any evidence that they make main guides in any shape but square. (EDIT: it's been pointed out to me that round main guides now exist.)

You were hinting at knowing this in the original post already, but there's no need to buy any additional hardware to switch an LS-32 to 4-way or 2-way operation. You just move the dark blue sub-guide to the 4-way position. The LS-32 sub-guide is there to allow 4-way and 2-way configurations in addition to the default 8-way provided by the light blue main guide.
