It's good to see more doujin games, though.

Except that doujin games don't have real licenses like this one. Then again, I guess an HK license is pretty poverty.

I'm really surprised that it doesn't look absolutely terrible! It only looks kind of bad.

It's a starfish game, the same dev who did Elminage, Monkey king, Heavenly Guardian etc...

It is a spiritual sequel to Monkey King actually.

You have to watch the video to get a real idea of just how horrible it appears to be.

I did, that's what I was talking about. From the video, the game doesn't look very good, but it doesn't look nearly as terrible as I expected after the Monkey King and other crappy Wii euroshmups.

Given their track record I would like to propose the developer change their name to "Chocolate Starfish"
I most definitely hate your favorite shooter.
For the sake of our own sanity, let's not even talk about Psikyo, Battle Garegga, or DDP DOJ with each other.

This game definitely will tax my SNES!

Really digging the player-created bullet spam so you can't see what the hell's going on. Play with a friend for 200% more farting in our Space Harrier ripoff! What's up with the character facing AWAY from the boss when retreating? And the player never tries to weave through a pattern...is this game so bad that you can't actually fit through? And am I the only one thinking that some things looked like items (but apparently they need to be dodged)? The wiggly brown things in the first gameplay segment that fade in and out.

HAHAHAHAHA, I can't stop laughing
IT'S a platform game, but the developers could not get the collision detection of the platform to work so they made it a shmup. (that's what it looks like at least)
brilliant!

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the guy looks like Goku with the magical cloud and the staff/bo.

And they are charging, what? 5k yen for this? For that price you can get three-four proper doujin games like Banshiryuu, Hellsinker or Samidare or RefleX or Exception... etc., etc., etc.

Anyway, also disturbing how damn static the player character is. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire enormous sprite is the hitbox. Also, get ready for the crazy control scheme. Do we have a candidate to dethrone the awful Wii port of Protöthea?

edit: so this is already out in the US? Did anyone try it?

It's based off the same "Monkey King" legend that Goku's design was (same goes for Shin Chuuka Taisen), so that goes without saying. Either way this sucker looks pretty painful...

Ah, thanks for clearing! I totally overlooked the references and went straight to watch the movie, my bad.

I was interested partially because these guys finally brought us Radio Allergy in the US, but this doesn't look nearly as appealing.

Does it use the Ultimate Shooting Collection's control scheme? I thought the nunchuk/remote combo worked rather well for shmups.

@Observer : yes, the entire sprite is the hitbox, if you're thinking "slalom", you may forget it !

@CJ Iwakura : nope, wiimote used as a NES pad, that's all.

@D : :D you've given here the best description of what that game is !

Franckly, how comes Star Fish (and UFO) release such an awful game in 2009 : all the errors of Shin Chuka Taisen/The Monkey King are reproduced, and I would even say that this one is WORSE than its predecessor as the childish chinese atmosphere has disappeared !

I just gave this game a whirl earlier. I have never played the monkey king or the sea shooter that is out. so i can't base my impressions off those two games. All-in-all id say this would be a good game to get someone who is young into the genre and only happens to own a wii and perhaps that game. At the same time i didn't find it too bad. I can't say id be playing this on a rainy day over many other quality arcade/16bit or even 8 bit shoot em' ups, though.

The backgrounds were colorful and looked decent, but the enemies did not fit the game. It was as if they were taken from past dragon warrior games on the NES and given slightly improved graphical updates. Some enemies like the wizard and weird brown things looked alright but the whole uniform thing is missing.

I dont know if every other level does this, but after you beat the first area and what i assume is level 1, you are then put into a space harrier aspect. Which was odd and felt odd too due to it being more on a 2d plane unlike space harrier being 3d.

After that you fight a boss and are allowed to move in two directions. The game seems to go off in so many different directions that i sorta detract what i said about this game being good for someone who is young and only has this game and a wii. Perhaps id suggest they return the game and get the ultimate shooting collection.

Wait, I'm confused. Did this actually get released in the US first? Has Daiseioh been released yet?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Just wondering, does anyone know if the japanese version will include changes or something to make it more, ummm, more passable? Or it'll stay the same? The sprites look a bit odd against the backgrounds...

Well, I didn't like the first Silver Surfer, so I guess I'll pass on this!
