Wii import (JP) games that are must-own??....

Post by dave4shmups »

I'm not talking about the Virtual Console, but Wii games only released in Japan that are must-owns. Are there any?

I haven't played it, but Disaster Day of Crisis looked really good and I was sure mad they canceled the US localization. Anybody get a chance to try it?

I put together a little list in this thread a while back, my feelings haven't changed since then (except for Monster Hunter 3 coming up soon, which looks quite cool).

I would only recommend the Project Zero title which is not getting localized. I think it's actually even creepier if you play it in a language you don't know. But there's barely any text in it anyway, in comparison to, say, 428 which is pretty much unplayable unless it gets localized (which it won't).

Pretty much all exclusive JP Wii titles aren't worth playing or have been localized already.

Oboru Muramasa is extremely awesome... but it'll get localized soon anyway.

Yeah, that one's been scheduled to be released in English for a while. It's amazingly pretty. And it plays soooooo much more smoothly than Odin Sphere (which I did like, btw). Combat still gets redundant after a while but well worth having regardless.

Busy playing Monster Hunter 3 right now, and it's a game worth dying for just to play it early. Imported a JP Wii just for this game.

i am on the verge of picking up MH3 - my only concern is i'm a bit Monster Huntered out

I've played through the PS2 versions and the PSP versions so i'm curious to know how different it is to the previous iterations.

I also have the PC version sitting here, but the whole "speak English and we'll ban you" / "No foreigners + IP ban" farce has left me less motivated on that one (despite the fact i should be able to soldier through with my turgid japanese and my ip is okay)

Does MH3 have voice chat? In that case, I can understand. I wouldn't like someone else in my game which I can't communicate with, unless it's a game where no communication is necessary (re: fighters, bomberman, etc). I recently bought a PSP yet again and I've been playing MHFU (I'm still rank 1 and I'm about 14 hours in, just taking my time with this thing). Someone helped me get the Japanese Ad-Hoc for PS3 working, but I don't really get how you're meant to find someone and play. I think you can use the PS3's voice chat capabilities with it. Good thing they're bringing that to the US though.

I'd also like to know how popular X-Link Kai is, over the JP Ad-Hoc these days.

I have MH3 in the mail, been looking forward to it. I have no idea what setup it uses for online play. I also don't know if I'm willing to shell out money to import a point card just to get a subscription... but we'll see.

I've always found banning based on language to be rather annoying (and somewhat petty feeling), but I must admit it's frustrating when you're playing a co-op game and you can't communicate with your teammates.

I agree communication is the main concern for MH3.. but heck if I find it not enjoyable to co-op then I would solo the quests online.

About 20 hours into this game and have to say everything is so much more refreshing from MH > MH2. Even the returning Rathian (one out of 3 returning monsters) feels so much different from previous incarnation. And the slash axe is a totally new experience, combination of gunlance + GS + LS

I've just started MHFU actually. I'm about 15 hours in and really starting to get the hang of it. The only thing I don't like is that a few things are unexplained; the weapon sharpness chart when you buy weapons, for example. Oh, and my select button apparently doesn't work, so I have to manually sort stuff.

Someone helped me set up the JP Ad-Hoc thing for PS3, which I already had downloaded but couldn't get it to recognize my PSP with. I still don't think I'm experienced enough to go online though. Just beat Yian Kut-Ku today.

I'm waiting for the US MH3 release, which hopefully will NOT be pay to play online.

I believe there have been a couple MH games (maybe just one?) that were pay-to-play-online in Japan but were free in the US. Odds are decent that MH3 will be that way too.
