Viper Phase 1 pcb issues

Post by Pointman »

Well I booted my supergun up for the first time in ages, and the first game I try is Viper Phase 1. The sound is a-ok but the screen is a mess of violent picture rolling. My first thought was the the monitor was playing up but after trying some other games that, and the supergun, were fine. So I'm guessing the pcb is shot in some way. Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Viper Phase 1 has a vertical refresh rate of around 54Hz, much less than most PCBs. Can you adjust the v-hold on the monitor? What were the other games that you tried? Have you played Viper Phase 1 with this supergun and monitor combination before?

Well I tried Mushi Futari, Daifukkatsu and Ketsui and they all booted up fine. I do remember trying Viper out my Aero City and it being ok. I'm beginning to think that Viper doesn't like my supergun setup. I might give it another go on the Aero to see if it still works on there.

It's the TV that deosn't like the Viper Phase 1 (supergun is fine). You've got to adjust the holds on the TV, if it's possible. sometimes an arcade monitor will have broader vert or horiz hold settings than a TV will have.

I'm using a Commodore 1084S monitor which does have many more options than a TV would have. I might try having a fiddle with the knobs (oo-er)
