ikari warriors pcb with supergun

Post by slai50 »

hi all-

does anyone here play ikari warriors pcb board with a supergun on a HDTV? If you do, do you need to flip the tv on its side or is there some kind of screen flipping option? Just wanted to make sure before i invest in a supergun as i do not want to turn my tv on its side.

Why would you do that?

because i want to play it on a bigger screen(40 inches). I don't have room in my apt for a tube tv and i don't want to play it on computer monitor.

Just get a CRT monitor and an upscaler. I have barely any room as well but it fits on the end of my desk.

I tried hooking my supergun up to my HDTV a while ago. I ended up with a black and white image with flickering random colors appearing every few seconds. Very distracting.

You will be hard pressed to find any vertical PCB that has a screen flipping option. On that note, Ikari & it's sequel Dogousouken both flip the "wrong" way. So if you're used to flipping your screen on it's side, you'll have to flip it to the other side. Very annoying.

if you wanna do that then you might as well go down the mame route, i'm sure it's less hassle.

I used my SyncMaster 204b for some PCBs recently; it was terrible.

Is there an easy way to use rotary controlers with mame? Can't imagine to play Ikari Warriors with a regular stick.

pretty sure ultimarc or one of the interface makers have something that'd allow you to hook up the controller to the PC.

You can cheat and use the mouse for a rotary controller. Try it, you might like it (and the pick-up-and-slap mouse routine shouldn't be all that more inconvenient than re-grasping the rotary stick's knob).

...or get one of these: http://gear.ign.com/articles/376/376480p1.html

But the best solution would still be to get an LS-30 coupled with an Ultimarc; like slap_fight already mentioned, pretty sure they already have something to hook it up on your PC.

I once was interested in buying one from a Digital Press forum member but he said that it didn't feel right in many games. YMMV I guess.

I tried using a supergun via an XRGB-2 upscan convertor on a 32" LCD HDTV monitor and it looks alright for what it does. Would look better on a true low-resolution 15.7kHz RGB monitor with the built-in scanlines for that complete look and feel (and no need for a upscan convertor anyways). The ol' tried and true CRT-based RGB monitors are king when it comes to playing them arcade PCBs properly. ^_~
