final burn alpha PSP

Post by lilmanjs »

so I've got this and have a few games for it, but I can't get anything to run. can anyone help me get games running with this? I've searched for guides and there are none to be found. I'd really like to be able to play cave games on my psp as well as street fighter games.

I know that CPS2PSP needs a cache for each game. Maybe that's the issue?

What Specineff said. Are you on a phat or a slim?

I haven't been keeping up, but I don't think you can make cache files for FBA yet. So if you're on a phat, you're screwed.

Weird... I thought I already replied to this thread.

FBA automatically creates any cache files required, and will work on a phat. I think might be a couple of games that require a lot of RAM and only work on the slim, but there are still quite a lot of phat-friendly games.

Some of the shmups I tried on my phat that worked: Donpachi, Dodonpachi, Dangun Feveron, ESPrade, Air Gallet, Shippu Mahou Daisakusen, Hotdog Storm, Strato Fighters, Truxton, V Five (no sound), Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings, 1945k III, Batsugun (no sound), Slap Fight.

Also Pooyan! :D

One thing though... make sure you have about 100, maybe 200MB free on your memstick when you try to run these games. If there isn't enough space for FBA to make a cache file for any game that needs one, then that game won't run. To give you an idea of cache sizes, Dodonpachi's cache is 25MB, Donpachi's is 12.5, ESPrade's is 36, Dangun Feveron's is 24... however most of the smaller games (eg: Truxton, Slap Fight, and even Shippu Mahou Daisakusen) won't need to create a cache file.

I didn't try any CPS3 games... remember you can always play the CPS2 Street Fighter games in the CPS2PSP emulator.

Nope, don't need to set up anything.

Are you trying any of those titles I mentioned or are you trying some other games instead? Maybe try Pooyan first, just to see if can actually load a game, cos if Pooyan doesn't work something must be screwy.

BTW, how much space is left on the memstick?

I tried all of the games you mentioned and they created 0byte cache files. truxton and truxton 2 and most games from like 1990 and earlier work just fine. so yea, some games work and most don't. I have over 800mb still on the stick.

I tried all of the games you mentioned and they created 0byte cache files.
Do you literally mean that all of the ones I listed created 0 byte cache files, of just some of the larger, more recent ones? For example, did Truxton create a cache file (0 byte or otherwise)? I'm guessing no. What about the other games you got working? Did any of them create cache files, 0 bytes or otherwise?

What I'm getting at is I'm trying to check whether it's only games that require a cache file that you can't get working.

Whatever the case, the first thing I'd try is to delete the 0kB cache files and then try loading those games again, just in case something went wrong before and now it isn't trying to create a cache file cos it thinks one already exists.

If that doesn't do the trick, maybe try an earlier version of the emulator.

BTW, when you originally formatted your memstick, did you format it via the PSP menu, or did you do it via windows?

its been formatted via the psp. and yea, only the games that require cache files don't work. I've deleted the folder and tried to load them again, and still they don't work. I did get the Cps2 emulator working though.

Hmm, in that case the only thing I can suggest is to try an earlier version of the emulator.

The version numbers for FBA get a bit confusing, but the version I most often use is "FinalBurn Alpha for PSP (ver: 0.01+)". It's a really old version without working savestates, but I found it ran many games more smoothly than later versions.

I also use a somewhat more recent version - according to the menu it is "FinalBurn Alpha for PSP (ver: LB_V12p1)" - which has savestates and supports more games.

BTW, I've never been able to get Battle Bakraid or Battle Garegga to run, so when you're testing, focus on something that should definitely work, like Donpachi.

thanks for the help. I've gotten donpachi to finally work, but the CPS2PSP emulator doesn't work. I hope this isn't a problem with the CFM I'm running (5.02 Gen-A full).

it very much so does. I spent 2 hours today playing it. realized that I had the kernel for the games set wrong and got that fixed easily. anyone know any good CPS2 fighters that aren't street fighter or darkstalker games?
