I might get this game, and I just want to find what other people think of this game. This is a discussion thread.
For those who don't know, Blastworks is a game for the Wii which allows one to make their own shmups. It's very flexible in some respects, but inflexible in others(e.g. you can only choose from music that comes with the game) . It also features ports of some of Cho Anki's(I think) games Tumiki Fighters and Rrootage.
(if there is already a Blastworks: Build Trade Destroy topic, remove this one.)
Blastworks: Does anyone here actually play it?

You surely meant Kenta cho. Cho Aniki is something else

I own it, played it a bit when I got it, but I have to admit I haven't played it at all since then. It's not bad, but I just have so many better shmups I didn't have much drive to play it. Unless the really good level editor that comes with it appeals to you, I'd probably not advise buying it.

It's a decent but not amazing game. You can find it for cheap now - like $20 or so at many places. It's probably worth $20 for the multiplayer modes. I wouldn't recommend spending more than that on it.

I actually got it for $10 bucks at Best Buy, don't know if it's still that price.
The main game is just Tumiki Fighters turned into an awful, ugly, over-long euroshmup. Bosses take too damn long to kill and have really uninspired patterns. From the little I bothered with the customization options, they're not really worth it either. It's maybe worth $10 if you have an older computer and want to play the included (unlockable) Kenta Cho games at full speed.

This. I couldn't stand how bland the main game was. I couldn't even force myself to unlock the Original Tumiki fighters because it was so boring. I got much more enjoyment and playtime out of Milestone Shooting Collection, which really isn't bad at all. It was a really disappointing, since I was looking forward to it for a while. I still need to pick up Castle of Shikigami...szycag wrote:I actually got it for $10 bucks at Best Buy, don't know if it's still that price.

I totally agree that the main game is frankly dull and probably not worth the money alone; but the editor is amazing IMO and well worth your time if you have the creativity and patience. Even if you're not creatively inclined, there's more than enough awesome user-created stuff now. Our community is still small; but we've always had a few hardcore folks (I was one of the top dogs for awhile) cranking out good stuff and making the game do what it probably wasn't meant to.
Here's a few videos of levels me and my friends have made.
Just mine... doesn't include the last two levels I made, though.
That said, you probably shouldn't go as far (or long) with it as I did. If it sparks your passion to make your own games like it did with me, it's probably wise to move on to something more powerful before too much longer.
