MVS-1F controller port issues

Post by spadgy »

Hey there,

So – I finally got an MVS 1-slot (The MVS-1F), which I’m using with my supergun.

Now, my supergun takes a Neo stick, and I use a converted Dreamcast Agetec through the ports in the front of the Supergun.

However, as the one-slot has two controller ports, I presumed I would be able to use the stick plugged directly into the gun, but it just doesn’t work.

Now, am I wrong that my supergun takes Neo sticks, and in fact it is just that the ports/controller jacks are the same shape as Neo ports/jacks? Or am I missing something, and do those ports on the one-slot not actually work directly like that?

Thanks for looking!

I don't have any Neo controllers to test this, but I've heard from some people that the NeoGeo controller ports, despite being a standard DB15 connector, are for some reason really deep, such that a modded joystick made for a supergun just won't be able to make a proper connection on the built-in ports on various Neo boards. I've got an MV-1F board with the built-in controller ports, and as I'm currently (failing at) putting together my own supergun, I've got a few DB15 connectors lying around, and they definitely don't seat all the way on the MV-1F ports.

Not sure if that's helpful or not.

I see - thanks all for your comprehensive answers.

So, my next question is - does that mean official Neo controllers won't work with Superguns that feature the 'shallow' controller ports?

Arasoi wrote:I can confirm this. I own a 1F (bought here in fact, maybe from Johny5 cant remember) and that extra deep 15 pin din is on there, it's common on a few systems including the Famicom's accessory port.

The 15 pin is a common connector on superguns due to easy wiring/availability if i remember correctly. If your gun is wired for neo sticks then they should just work through the gun with the 1F. If you want them to plug into the 1F controller ports and work, the easiest way is to buy some Neo Geo extension cables:

And replace/resolder the end connectors. They would still work in the shallow/normal 15 pin ports just fine. This would be the easiest way I know of, but if anybody knows a better way awesome.
yup...that was mine
