Re: Great MVS games that aren't shmups or beat 'em-ups?
A couple of other racing/driving MVS based games worth checking out are Riding Hero (a 3rd-person from behind perspective viewpoint motorcycle racing game from 1st-party developer SNK back in 1990 -- even has a quasi-RPG game setting to play with as well) and Thrash Rally (another top-down perspective racing game from 3rd-party developer Alpha Denshi aka ADK circa 1991).
It's interesting to note that both Riding Hero & Thrash Rally MVS carts have a dual 1/8" stereo-jack interface for linking up more than one player for multiplayer head-to-head gaming sessions -- of course, that entails sourcing two copies of said respected MVS cart titles + two MVS mobos & communication "link-up" interface cable setup. I didn't know that you can play such head-to-head MVS games back in the day as I've, personally, never seen such a setup in the USA based arcades back in the early 1990s -- it was more prevalent in the Japanese game centers to play head-to-head MVS games, of course. ^_~
SNK's 1st-party released 1990 Robo Army MVS cart has some pretty cool sci-fi design aestethics borrowed from those cool Japanese VHS cyberpunk OVAs (Original Video Animation) of that era. It's akin to playing a cyberpunk version of Final Fight if you will on the ol' venerable MVS hardware. ^_~

Any particular reason why? I haven't played much of 2, but it seems like 3 is just like 2 but with more characters and better graphics. The gameplay feels almost identical.Alec wrote:Magical Drop 2 (I must be the only one who prefers it to 3)

Thanks again for the continued recommendations.
Along with Shock Troopers (Any way of easily distinguishing Sets 1 and 2?), I'm thinking of getting a driving game still, so - Which should I go for out over Overtop, Neo Drift Out and Thrash Rally?

Dude, you're perfectly welcome to borrow any of my MVS carts, including the stupendously brilliant Shock Troopers (for me it tops all Metal Slugs after the first, but then I have a horn for the soundtrack).spadgy wrote:Bill wrote:Shock Troopers is killer. Plays kind of like Metal Slug in an overhead run-and-gun format. The scoring involves lots of milking, which as always isn't for everyone. But I like to just crank the difficulty to max and tear through it guns blazing. Great with friends too.
That sounds perfect. Me and the wife love 2-player topdown run-'n'-guns....
Thanks for the speedy replies and recommendations!
PM me for a list and I'll bring some down to London for your perusal.
Or maybe just borrow the 100 in 1 boot cart, it's loaded with great titles.
Glad you like Nam 75. Despite it's dodgyness, it has a special place in my heart.

Either overtop or driftout, driftout is an expensive cart though, but both are great.spadgy wrote:Thanks again for the continued recommendations.

I had all 3 driving games for MVS but sold driftout and thrash rally recently because I prefer overtop out of the 3. its got more to it, driftout is fun and looks wonderful but I don't know, the actual playing parts are really tiny, like 30seconds of racing and then you're on another track. meh.

Re: Great MVS games that aren't shmups or beat 'em-ups?
Is £50 including postage a fair price for a Shock Troopers cart, or should I hold out for a better deal?
Re: Great MVS games that aren't shmups or beat 'em-ups?
Expensive, it should be £35 posted.

I think I want to be greedy in this particular case - just this and Neo Drift Out...
Re: Great MVS games that aren't shmups or beat 'em-ups?
Andygeezer has a driftout for sale I think, its not cheap though, its a £60 cart, I sold mine for £75 shipped to the US a few months back.

The Segashed guy right?
Re: Great MVS games that aren't shmups or beat 'em-ups?
Yup, he had a driftout at the show for sale, £65, original label but the serials were scratched off.
