Crazy leaderboards on Namco Museum Essentials Dragon Spirit

Post by CecilMcW00t »

My best score for this game is around 450,000 but I'm seeing scores over 1,000,000 on the leaderboards!

Are there some point milking tricks for this game or something I'm missing? The closest thing I found was the stage 8 boss. If you shoot one of the eyes and then suicide, you can boost your score a little, but I usually don't have more than 4 lives in stock.

Help me out here folks! I want to break this game wide open! muwahahaha

Don't the bosses not timeout? Or is that just NES version?

After a while, balls of lightning start flying at you. When that happened I got spooked and killed the boss. lol

But I guess if that's all the game does and the boss never runs away you could milk. The lightning balls are definitely tricky to dodge but possible. But I can't think of any boss that has any milkable enemies/attacks. But I just got off work and my brain is trying to shut off so I'm probably forgetting something obvious.

You can get an idea from marp. Here is ~800k, and the comments talk about >1mil that wasn't submitted. I watched this along with a one-miss here (thanks mikwuyma for finding) years ago, so I don't really remember much but yes, there is checkpoint milking.

I've been up for about 2 hours trying to get these old versions of MAME to run on my Vista laptop. I downloaded the script for making the inp playback and I keep running into errors starting the damn thing. I wish there was a frontend that just loaded the friggin replays. This is really raising my blood pressure. I kind find any help on these issues and it's raising my blood pressure. I'm done.

I could take a look since I should at least be able to run that version of MAME on a Win98 machine (won't be pretty but it could work). Strangely, the 1M points run uses the Old version...I wonder if there's something broken in that one?

Thanks a lot man, I'd really appreciate it. And yeah that quote... LOL I should add a (sic) to it. =P

Edit: Jeez I typed up my other message in a blind rage, the last two sentences don't even make sense. lol

I would love to know the exact differences of all these versions.
Last time I played, it was on the old version IIRC, I wonder if some version allows more scoring opportunities than the other; Maybe there's a particular checkpoint in the old version that can easily net you another 500k by spending a few lives there.
