New company to publish Japan doujin games for sale here?
Re: New company to publish Japan doujin games for sale here?
The dev name you are looking for is Astroport. I can't seem to find the thread but it's around and quite recent. The game with the teleportation mechanic is called Meglilo. Also check Armed7 and Vulkaiser (inspired on the old chokuzokas -sp?-, aka, mechs likes Mazinger Z & Co.)
They've been translated to english but apparently said translation was done by Astroport themselves, I can't remember.
Yup, the other upcoming releases are Flying Red Wine Barrel, Gundemonium (which also includes the awesome Hitogata Happa) and Qualia, which was renamed to Qlione or something similar and seems it'll only be available as an online download?

Ahh Meglilo thats the name
I found the vendor site its courious factory

I hope the games released over in the west sell rather well thereby attracting more doujin devs to sell their games to us. Jap gamers might even start to think that we arnt all torrent downloaders if a easy means of getting hold of title cheaply are open to us

Might be a bad idea to revive this topic, but in case anyone's interested it looks like Rockin' Android is eventually headed to consoles.

Touhou+ZUN+consoles? Does not compute.
Touhou+ZUN+localisation? With the english patches already done? Does not compute.
Fan-speak: "ZUN letting the filthy gaijin contaminate the immaculate Touhou with a western release?"
Oh, boy, can't wait for the fan rage. Considering the stir caused by the fan animation project this could the one hell of a guided missile.

I stopped reading there. Hilarious article. "Their games", was it?“Porting our games over to Xbox Live, PSN and WiiWare has always been part of the plan,” Enrique Galvez, President of Rockin’ Android
The fact that ZUN has already publicly declared that he "can't understand why foreigners would enjoy his work" and that he doesn't want his series being made into a commercial anime indicates that them hitting consoles is indefinitely set to "never happening". I would be very, VERY surprised if Touhou ever saw the light of day on anything but PC.

Reminds me of Working Designs. Good taste in games, but they definitely acted like the games were "their games". More generally, one of my pet peeves is people crediting publishers for games instead of developers (this makes some sense in a few contexts, but not many), and it just grates even more when the publishers do it themselves.Elixir wrote:"Their games", was it?
Not to mention the follow-up:
I'm inclined to interpret this as "some lower-level people showed some interest, but there's no deal on the table and nothing in the development pipeline".We made a splash at Comic-Con International recently and received a lot of attention from the big guys, so it’s in the works for next year. Sadly, I can’t say too much yet.

Here's some more on licensing Touhou. It will happen eventually, I think. I'm just hoping that if (when) it does get licensed, it doesn't cut off the fan translations (wiki, patches), since I like collecting the Japanese versions while still being able to enjoy them in English.
http://novelnews.net/2009/07/10/intervi ... n-android/Q: Have you considered some of the bigger doujin circles like Shanghai Alice, Tasogare Frontier, French Bread, etc.?
Absolutely. I’m a huge fan of all of them. I have actually met with ZUN twice already. I researched ZUN online first and found out that he loved beer. The guy loves beer and is a beer connoisseur. When I was first meeting with him, of course I brought him imported beer, and I brought him a Corona banner. We actually get along really well, but the thing about ZUN is that ZUN is really not prepared for a US market just yet. He definitely has had many offers in the past both from France and some different countries. He’s definitely content with the Japanese market and he does not need it to grow any larger than it is, because he does have a daytime job and it would only make more work for him. At this point, he’s very satisfied. But, I will say that we’re chipping away at him slowly, and I think in the next year or so, we might be able to do something with him.
http://www.mangabullet.com/article.php?id=238MB: Speaking of Tohou games, are you planning to acquire any of them?
EG: Funny story, but to get noticed I went to Comiket (the largest
self publsihed works convention in the world with 500,000 attendees)
and I would bring gifts and introduce myself, it was a lot of leg
work involved. I had heard that Zun-san, the mastermind behind Tohou
project, enjoyed a good drink here and there, so I brought him some
imported beer as a gift. Wanted to make a lasting impression. We
talked briefly and he felt that his games would be too hard for US
gamers. We are working with Platine Dispositif, developers of the
Gundemonium games. Inagaki-san, president of the company, is good
friends with Zun, so we have a tentative meeting to discuss the
future of his games in the US. I will do my best to convince him that
we are ready, wish me good luck.

Yeah. So many people think that Atlus made Disgaea. It's sickening.Ex-Cyber wrote:Reminds me of Working Designs. Good taste in games, but they definitely acted like the games were "their games". This is basically exactly what I said. ZUN can't see westerners enjoying hard games like this.Aisha wrote:http://www.mangabullet.com/article.php?id=238

Touhou games aren't that hard. And they draw crowds. I can also see how ZUN is slowly giving in.Elixir wrote:ZUN can't see westerners enjoying hard games like this.
Go play Suguri if you want to see what hard is.
Re: New company to publish Japan doujin games for sale here?
Hard in the sense that everyone (well not on here but) cries about how they can't pass normal, dislikes playing easy mode due to some incredibly stupid meme ("eeeeh? easy mode majidesuka? guroi!" or something) and the games aren't known for anything in the west. That thing about him not understanding westerners was actually a blog entry years ago, but that interview confirms he still thinks the same thing.

I'm not doubting you on that statement, but I'm pretty sure a lot of others out here might. Do you have links to that blog entry if it's still up?
Well, they can all play PoFV if it's too hard to finish the single-player games. There's also the Tasofro fighting games too.

Re: New company to publish Japan doujin games for sale here?
I don't, and I don't really feel like digging through ZUN's blog to prove a point, so just take my word for it. Kefit might know where it is, since he was the one who told me.
If the fighting games come into it, there's the whole issue of it now becoming a community reliant game, and the netcode as well. I just hold absolutely no hope for Touhou games ever being released on consoles at any time in the future.
