Anyone have memories of this excellent show? It makes me sad how many friends haven't seen it who would have totally appreciated it, although I was 10 or 11 when I was staying up late on school nights to watch it so I guess it kind of makes sense for anyone in my age group. Most of the show's target audience are into their 30's now, as this was 94-95. I doubt it had any following outside of the US either.
Well, today is the official release date of "The State: The Complete Series DVD" which is going on Amazon and ebay and such for around 40 US dollars. In a perfect world this would be all that fans of the show could have asked for. But there's one thing that slips a lot of people's minds when remembering the show, which is the same reason a re-release was in limbo for so long; music. It makes sense for a sketch show on MTV to be full of popular music, and the State had tons. Buying the rights back to all the original music might have been possible but certainly not profitable. I thought maybe at least a few of the more obscure songs would have made it into this, but it sounds like the show was almost entirely rescored. Half of the appeal of the show would have been the 90's nostalgia, so really this is only half the package for most fans.
I guess new fans who wanted to see what the show was about won't even know the difference. I just wish there was some way this show could be considered "historically significant" or something and be able to waive some of the copyright issues that way. Anyways I just wondered if you guys had fond memories of the show, what your favorite skits were, or even why you thought it sucked/was overrated, whatever.
