The only thing better than a shmup OST CD

Post by robivy64 »

Is when you record the audio straight from the board. Especially if it's that remixed or arranged crap. Synthesizers > *

M1 is good enough for me.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

That's a pretty hefty PCB.

I love how the netbook is several times smaller than the PCB.

You probably aren't getting the best recording quality out of the input jack on a netbook, though. If that's the model I think it is, I have the same one, and the sound on it is pretty meh.

This is a good consumer level soundcard for this sort of thing : http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/A ... e2496.html

That's an OK price they have listed on the page (hopefully can be found cheaper elsewhere). I wonder how the Fatality X-FI (not bothered to put random 1s in the name) Gamer stacks up to it in that department (and the ASUS soundcards for that matter).

If I knew how to share some samples i'd do it. The quality is excellent.

omg Burning Force. I think the Mega Drive version has a better soundtrack, though, and what a soundtrack it is.

Just encode as MP3 and toss them in a ZIP on http://www.megaupload.com or something.

Hmm, I hate to break it to you, but these are not very well recorded at all. There's audible background hiss and the bass seems to be pretty much missing. Plus, there's of amplification to the point of distortion. I have the OST to compare with, but I don't really need it, it's pretty easy to tell. It even sounds better coming out of MAME.

Doesn't bother me. I am by no means a dedicated audiophile. I don't need to have mega clarity to the point that my ears bleed with the piercing YM2151 highs. XEXEX has some audio hissing no matter what. It's the aging capacitors on that lovely custom Konami sound chip.

Here's another sample to analyze (or listen to) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B0EDYA20

I don't think the highs are an issue, although there is something off with them, can't tell exactly what.

Oh well, not everyone is anal about audio.
