CPS-2, sprites not showing up. Help needed.

Post by Artemio »

I've changed the batteries in 4 boards already (2 Hispanic and 1 Japanese
rental) without issues, nevertheless I just changes the battery of a
Japanese Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and although the board is
working and is gives OK on all the Memory Test list values, the sprites
are not displaying.

The game boots and shows backgrounds and sounds, but sprites and title
screen are simply not there. Could I have messed something up? I checked
that it made a tight connection, and that wasn't the problem. I only have
one Japanese A board, and maybe I'll get another one soon to test if that
one is the problem. But I doubt it since the game was playing just fie
before changing the battery.

Any help would be appreciated.

A pity that you don't have a means of trying the B board on a compatible A board. It seems too coincidental that the problem has happened after you changed the battery, so perhaps when you did the work you knocked something, perhaps dripped some solder on the board and created a short, etc?

Also check all the pins on the connectors that mate the A with the B board, you may have a bent pin.

You were right on the money, I had bent 2 pins on teh connector. Since my eyesight is somewhat poor I hadn't noticed this on my inspection. I used a magnifying glass and straightened them up. I guess I shouldn't do this kind of thing late at night.

Thanks a lot man.

I had the same thing happen and was going to suggest that, but look like you're all sorted out. Mine was the very corner pin and it was bent flat. Took me about an hour to properly fix it.
