Outrun 2 is addictive as hell, isn't it? :)

PGR2 is a little more on the sim-side, but it's a TON of fun... one of my favorite racers of all time! Plus, there are so many exotics... I was in heaven.
Yeah, it sure is! :D

Thanks for the reccomendation on PGR2; I'll have to check that out!

I just got an XBOX to have as my Next-gen console. I probably won't end up owning as many games for it as I did for any of my PS2's, but with me, it's quality over quantity, and the XBOX delivers BIG-TIME in this area!

How's the XBOX Toe Jam & Earl game? My only problem with the first Genny one was the fact that, IMO, the characters moved so slowly.

Man, is Crimson Skies TOUGH! It's a blast, but it's amazing how differently events take place in each stage, depending on what you do first in each stage!
Rent Midnight Club 3 - see what you think of that. It's the best streetracing type series period. Forget Burnout (even though it has LOVELY graphics), forget NFSU, get MC3 - learn it a bit in career, buy a few nice rides, then take it online and find out what real arcade streetracing can be like.

I did a couple of vids, here: http://www.system11.org/temp/mc3

Congrats on your purchase. Although I don't like the Xbox (it's not because I hate M$ or the huge size, it's the lack of game titles I'm looking for and the over-hyping of Halo, and that you have to PAY for online service), I can apprecate the fact that other people like it.

Although not a fan of racers and it's been ages since I played one, Outrun 2 is incredibly fun. I was hooked from jump.

Burnout 3 is supposed to be better on the PS2.

:P
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Glad you're enjoying GunValkyrie, now it's at least four of us! The rest of the lot just couldn't handle Naglfar's Pit, I tells ya... :)

 Oh Boy, is Naglfar's Pit a really tough level? *gulps*

I love Gunvalkyrie; the only move that I have any trouble performing sometimes is the dash-and that's easy enough to learn.

It seems like every other arcade-style flight shooter on the XBOX gets compared to Crimson Skies-while I agree that Crimson Skies is the best, I also own Sea Blade, and I think that one's a great shooter!

Maybe I should give Yager a try.

Again I disagree...
I thought BurnOut 3 was pretty fun, and actually Project Gothem Racing 1&2 got boring real quick.

You could give Ralli Sport Challenge 2 a try. Its only $20 new, and it features some of the best "rally" racing I've ever played!
Still, for "arcade style racing" you can't beat OutRun 2!!

Midnight Club 3 seemed really cool for the short while I played it.(I don't own it yet, but I will soon)

Naglfar's Pit is the level that pretty much forces you to click with the game. It's a pit (sorry to insult your intelligence, :P) filled with a load of columns and it's about five "maps" tall (you're going up). There are flying bugs and little tornados, too, and half the platforms either have exploding enemies on them or they crumble. The floor is made of acid, too. Fun times. Earlier levels you could kind of scrape by without knowing the boost system too well but NP... yeah. I thought I knew the game pretty well, too, until I got there.

Thats the main reason why I could care less about online gaming. Once the game is "old news", its discarded and nobody plays it anymore.

Yeah, but there are plenty of XBOX games that are just as fun offline; IMO. I'm a single player gamer, despite being an extrovert with a capital "E" (go figure) and I could care less about online gaming. As many insults and obscenities that I've heard get thrown around on XBOX live, it sounds like Microsoft needs to get a serious grip on the situation.

Blueberry, you didn't insult my intelligence! That level sounds pretty bad, but I love the kind of challenge this game offers-I'll have to let you know how it goes when I get to that level!

I'm a "single player" gamer as well. With the exception of stuff like Street Fighter.
Still, I agree, most games are just fine offline.

But isn't that the case with arcade gaming as well? If a fighter comes out and nobody plays it, it's just this side of useless.

That said, I generally don't play games online because I'm not too fond of (directly) competitive games in general, and there aren't enough co-op games to justify the price of XBL.

I second Enclave. It is by far my favorite game on the Xbox. Graphically impressive with a kickass challenge. All the gaming mags (except OXM) hated it because there was no in-mission saves, and some of the missions are friggin long. That, however, is why I love it. One of the true iron-man games. Did I mention it's probably one of the prettiest games ever made?

i still think this game could have been great if the original concept had been completed though.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
I just finished this game earlier today and it easily belongs in the Top 20 as far as Xbox games go. It's a combination action platformer/FPS where you can jump between the 1st and 3rd person views at any time. Both modes work wonderfully and really help create an amazing atmosphere. The only strike(?) I'd put against it is that it is published by EA.

Riddick
One of the few Licensed games worth a damn. Amazing production values and a very well-done FPS create one of the best games in the Xbox library. Play as Vin Diesel and essentially escape from Butcher Bay. Features loads of neck-snapping, Shiv-stabbing, and all that other fun stuff.

Burnout 3
Custom Soundtrack alone puts this game over the PS2 version. Other than that though it's a decent enough racer though it's best played with friends. IMO it's a sad sad game as a "serious" racer(It's entirely too simple and random...especially when luck becomes a factor in winning races). It's a blast smashing your friends off the road however.

Beyond Good & Evil
A very good Zelda-esque game with great stealth elements, very cool characters and art, and a well-done plot on top of it all.

SpikeOut Extreme
One of the best 3D beatemups for any system. A quasi-sequel to Sega's arcade game SpikeOut you can play online with up to four people and bring three flavors of hurt to hundreds of thugs using a great combo system. Very challenging however especially the requirements to unlock boss characters.

Breakdown
A Japanese take on the console FPS. Very difficult yet extremely atmospheric it is hard to go wrong with this title(Especially since it can be had for as little as $5)

Doom 3
Get the collector's edition as it includes very good ports of Doom 1 & 2. Aside from that you get a really good port of the latest game in the series so uh..there you go.

Other recommendations
SNK Vs Capcom Chaos(They fixed most of the flaws with the arcade game so it's actually a somewhat decent fighter.)

Shenmue 2(Provided you haven't played this on DC already)

Midway Arcade Collection(The Xbox versions of these classic arcade games are considered the most accurate.)

Grand Theft Auto 3/VC/SA(Take the PS2 versions and add better visuals plus custom soundtrack and there you go.)

Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball(Essentially a sim where you attempt to get the girls to wear all kinds of tiny swimsuits, also includes volleyball and a casino)

Otogi 1 & 2(Very good action games, though I prefer Otogi 2 due to having more playable characters[Scythegirl rocks!])

So yeah..have fun

I'd like to hear some elaboration on this. The main reason I chose the Xbox rev over the PS2 version was the customized soundtrack option. My taste in music is muuuucch better than EA's.

I might have read through the thread too quickly, but I didn't see either Jade Empire or Forza Motorsport mentioned. Jade Empire is a bit on the short side, the "shmup" minigame sucks, and the whole thing really is a KOTOR rehash in different clothes, but I still liked it. Forza's getting quite a bit of playtime from me right at the moment. Good quality, IMO.

Thanks JP! :D Aquila looks friggin' AWESOME!

Can anyone reccomend a good XBOX Dungeon Hack and Slash that isn't as long as the Baldur's Gate or Champions of Norrath games?

Finally...how's Taz: Wanted! I'd really like to hear some feedback on this one, it looks quite fun!

You should get the first Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance then. If you only play the first loop it shouldn't take more than 10 hours. And if you decide to get hardcore you can play all the way up to Extreme to get the uber items and spells. (And unlock Drizzt for campaign play!)

I'd be on that bandwagon, if the game didn't give me motion sickness from turning so much. I thought after I got used to the movement of First-Person Shooters I would never have this kind of problem again unless I was playing something on a hand-held while in a moving vehicle. This game proved me wrong.

The Gunvalyrie contols messed up my control when playing Halo.......damn inverted control. Seriously, though, that game could be amazing if it had the now-standard 1st/3rd person controls.

^ i disagree, it wouldn't be the same game if there was a "standard" control scheme attached. steel batallion on a controller s, so to speak. i've got to dig it up again. that game still has some of the most successful visual design i have seen yet in a game.
