Sengoku Blade
Sengoku Blade
Ok, I posted this on 2dgaming.net, but nobody bit so I figure I'll post it here:
I discovered this game the other day.. for a long time, I thought it was just a different region version of Sol Divide, but upon firing it up I was surprised to see that it was a Psikyo shooter I'd actually never played! It also seems to be one of the Psikyo games which is barely ever mentioned.. maybe a hidden gem?
While it's definitely Aerofighters-on-its-side, I thought the boss battles (including one of the first stages where most of the stage is fighting various characters) set it apart a bit. I only wish there had been a little more side-viewish stuff, as most of the levels don't have any walls..
BTW, anyone know how the scoring in this works? Is there something interesting I can do with the coins, or is it the usual grab-while-flashing Psikyo stuff?

Re: Sengoku Blade
I haven't played this one in years, but it's one of my favorite Psikyo games. I'm a sucker for horis, and for Psikyo, and for traditional Japanese-themed stuff, so this one was pretty much made for me.
I don't remember how the scoring works at all, though... I had enough trouble getting far in the game and never paid much attention IIRC.

Re: Sengoku Blade
It's fairly popular for a Psikyo game. The scoring is just like most Psikyo games - points for extra power-ups/bombs and flashing bonus items. The only difference is that some are hidden and they can fall off of the screen before scrolling past. Ace and Blade both have some of their best looking bosses.
Re: Sengoku Blade
Regular "grab-while-flashing" (actually, when they're flat "against" the screen), and running across the ground (in stages that you can) produces additional coins.

the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..
Re: Sengoku Blade
Yeah, I like this one. I used to play it on Sega Saturn back in the days. I'll be getting a HD Loader PS2 pretty soon here, so maybe I'll get back to it. I need to get an S-Vid or RGB cable and drop a Sanwa joystick in my Tekken 5 controller and I'll be all set.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I can't remember seeing the nipples

Re: Sengoku Blade
! my shmup thread has turned into a boobage thread.. well, not too surprising I guess. So you mention she's the worst playable character.. who is the best to play as, generally speaking?

Re: Sengoku Blade
I dont think Koyori's that bad tbh, I think a lot of people would recommend Hagane as he's super powerful, i find him to be a bit too slow to live with myself. My favourite character to play with was Ennice, her charge shot is really useful as it keeps inflicting damage in the same place for a few seconds. The secret character Ayin is also very good, a powerful shot and the strongest bomb in the game for those tight situations
Shonmoru is the worst character of the lot imo

Re: Sengoku Blade
The player on the Blade superplay that came with Psikyo Shooting Collection Vol. 2 was tearing up at least the first loop with Koyori. Didn't watch any further, though.

Yeah, that's like the trademark for this game so if you can't remember that, what can you remember?

Re: Sengoku Blade
Koyori has the worst bomb and the worst charged up shot. Her homing is pretty useful, though if you like to keep rank down you are screwed.
I like to play with the other girl (Forgot her name), because her charged shot is awesome, and it works the same either you have 1 power up or is fully powered up. Also, her main shot has the same power all the time, the power up only affects the secondary shot (Which won't be shot if you have the charged shot on screen, which in my case is like 80% of the time)... so she's great if you want to play a "keep rank-low" game.
I was playing this today. I suck at it though.
