my brain is kind of fried and i'm afraid dimahoo's going to win the vote so this is probably the only way to spend 14 days of my unproductive idle time

i'm only interested because of the horror stories about griefing and the fact that most of the players don't pvp yet go around in pvp areas
so long and tanks for all the spacefish
unban shw
<Megalixir> now that i know garegga is faggot central i can disregard it entirely
<Megalixir> i'm stuck in a hobby with gays

I've had a few friends play the game. Seems like people either stop playing pretty quickly, or get addicted to it like crack. I have really not seen anyone who only plays it moderately. So that's the question I'd ask myself. Do I want to risk being addicted to crack?

EVE Online is a very pretty game, but it takes far, far too long to have everything accessible. The game says there is no grind, but there is -- it's just an automated grind, where you earn experience with the passage of time. This, to me, makes it feel like even more a money drain than the typical MMORPG. Want to do cloaked spy missions? You're looking at having to play/wait for six months to pass in real-time before you can.

It's also too easy to get in a mining rut early. The "fun" part of the game is combat, but it's very daunting early on. Joining a corporation will help you starting off and exposing you to everything available. In fact, you really need to be part of a corporation (EVE's clans) to make any real progress in the game. You can also do trading, investing (once you acquire enough money), research, and production. There are a lot of different routes to take in playing the game, and it's open ended so that you can basically switch at any time with no point loss. You of course will never be quite on the level as those who invested far more time into a given trade/activity, though.

You'll also spend much time traveling. Space is big, really, really big. You're better spent running EVE in the background while doing other PC tasks, as the time spent traveling is pretty boring, and early on there's not much you can do in the way of in-game time wasting. Still, as dull as it is, that realism is appealing since it opens lots of possibilities as far as pirate attacks and giving some balance to trade running. All in all, it's a really well designed game but tips way too far too the boring side of the scale, at least for me.

No.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

It's about as interesting as reading about it, as per above.

I'd love to try this one but I'm afraid I'd become a MMO addict again so no thanks.

Some kids in the #bentest channel (different server) are like

"YO DAWG

Should I pull off the heist? about 500K"

Favorite Eve tactic -> insinuate yourself with some corporation -> open up their hangars and fly away all their ships

$16,500

I'm sure you all know the story but fart

Wasn't there the story of a guy who pulled off an incredible scam involving blueprints of ships, fled with the money, and then lost all interest for the game? (He sent 30 Billion ISK to a random noob before logging off for good.)
