Anno and company are going to continue to milk that franchise to kingdom come
Of course they are, it's profitable :D Plus it's like anime (hell, media in general) tradition to do so; look at Gundam or Macross.

Anyways, huge Eva fan since the beginning and some camrip bits of 2.0 have hit the web, including the last 28 minutes. Those who disliked the familiarity of the first film might enjoy the fact that it seems Anno is kicking the entire original storyline in the teeth and going in what seems like a completely different direction.

Gundam and Macross start over with new story arcs and characters, though. Saying that the newest Eva isn't a total retread isn't the greatest praise.

Anyway, I was looking up the series on Wikipedia to see if there were any other iterations of it I didn't know about and found out that a couple of Gainax higher-ups were arrested back in '99 for corporate tax evasion. There's an interesting quote from Gainax founder Yasuhiro Takeda:
Sawamura understood our financial situation better than anyone, so when Evangelion took off and the money really started rolling in, he saw it as possibly our one and only opportunity to set something aside for the future. I guess he was vulnerable to temptation at that point, because no one knew how long the Evangelion goose would keep laying golden eggs. I don't think he purposely set out with the goal of evading taxes. It was more that our level of accounting knowledge wasn't up to the task of dealing with revenues on such a large scale.
Bonus: I also checked animenewsnetwork and came across a review of Raiden Fighters Aces.

Fixed?
Your leaving out heaps over other equally useless commercials.

Evangelion: 2.22 blu-ray came out a few days ago so some thread necromancy is in order.
Just watched it myself, pretty amazed.

Yeah, I also have a feeling he might somehow intergrate this story as a part of the original (watch past the credits!)

I was sort of disappointed at the lack of the psychological scenes and such of the original series, but as a seperate story this is awesome, along with the action.

I just started watching the evangelion series at the start of this week and this was the last thing left to watch :)
I didnt expect to like the rebuilds compared to the originals but was blown away by 2.0.

Yeah, Funamation released Evangelion 2.0 on Blu-Ray format for the USA market back in March of 2010. I got it on day one of release and was blown away by the new re-imagining of the Evangelion franchise presented in glorious 1080p. To see huge buildings turn into massive defense weaponry is a definite highlight. It'll be interesting to see how Evangelion 3.0 and Evangelion 4.0 turn out though (which'll be nothing more than glorified Evangelion films with a slight twist to them).

There is the newly released Macross Frontier movie out on Blu-Ray format as well.

You mean 1.11. Funimation has not yet released 2.22, in fact the rights aren't even up for licensing yet.

I didn't watch 2.0 yet but I already know they added a naked Asuka in there.

Do they really need to add this kind of stuff to sell more?

I thought they'd already packed all the nudity and other such fan service into the original that was physically possible.

Not even close, they actually went entire episodes without fanservice at some points. That's honestly more than you can say about any popular anime in the last 5-10 years.

In this case its a copy of the "shower scene" shinji had in the first episode but for asuka, heh. I dont remember there being noticable meaningless/fanservice nudity in the original series apart from the first few episodes.
