And also since there's an Action Replay disc that can allow me to play imports on the GC, it'd be nice to know what's available overseas too, so thanks ahead of time. I honestly don't care what titles they are, I'd just assume get 'em all anyway.
So, what else has Gamecube got?

Okay, so I got a Gamecube recently, along with Ikaruga, and am truly enjoying it, I hear Chaos Field will be coming to GC soon (does anyone know when).

The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

I have only played the GC version of Ikaruga (I own it), so I can't make comparison's to the Dreamcast version, but I think it's fantastic. Some fault the small D-pad on the stock GC controller as a poor way to play it, but I find the control to be just fine. A must-have if you're a shmup fan and a GC owner, IMO.

Shikigama no shiro II is what I've been playing the most of, and it's quite good. I haven't played any of the other versions. I don't like it as much as Ikaruga, but it's strong.
I haven't had a chance to try it out 2P yet.
My biggest gripe is no big deal: I don't like how many times I have to press start or A to get a game going. That always annoys me.
The large character selection is quite cool.

Hori have released a SFC style game pad back then when the GBplayer for GC was first released. That gamepad have a big D-pad and without the analog stick and the weight for the virbriation feature. I got one for US$11.54 then. I think it will suit you. *Meow*FRO wrote:I have only played the GC version of Ikaruga (I own it), so I can't make comparison's to the Dreamcast version, but I think it's fantastic. So far, I got the GC version of Ikaruga (sans instruction manual, quite rare to find where I'm at actually).
And also for PS2:
Mobile Light Force 2 (HAHAHAHAHAH x_@)
Castle Shikigami 2 (translation be damned, still a good game)
Gradius V (pure luck that I found this)
R-Type Final
My wishlist (I prefer GC, not so much PS2 as I don't think I want to mess with Springs and Unscrewing my Disc Tray, GC Disc Swap is more reliable anyway)
Chaos Field (do you know if the extended version will be hitting the GC in the states?)
Espgaluda (please hit GC! please hit GC!
Dondonpachi: DOJ
Mushihimesama
Psyvariar I + II (isn't there a collection somewhere?)
Trizeal
And for the love of God, Treasure, please re-releast/port/whatever you have to do to make it available again: Radiant Silvergun
Wet Dream: RS, RS2 (Ikaruga), RS3 (What, they talked about it???) collection.

Consider trade in your old PS2 for a Slim one, so you can then swap the disc much more easiler, moreover the BB unit is pre-instored with the unit. You can play online with it. *Meow*Blade wrote:I prefer GC, not so much PS2 as I don't think I want to mess with Springs and Unscrewing my Disc Tray, GC Disc Swap is more reliable anyway
You can still find these babies at eBay and most online stores now. But their price are rising quick. Make sure you get them all before the prices getting over $80. *Meow*Blade wrote:My wishlist

I don't know if the savegame issue affects Chaos Field or not (haven't played the GC version), but there are several games that have problems (including the inability to save) if you use Freeloader to play them. It wouldn't surprise me if CF had some problems.Capt. So what is the major difference between the American release of Chaos Field and the Expanded version so that I know that if I opt for the American version, I'll know what I'm missing.

Well, the "erase what you do have" thing *might* just be the Jp game trying to see a Jp formatted card and seeing a US formatted one. But then, I modded my GCN for imports, so I'm not really sure. I know that the freeloader acts funny on certain games, so maybe this is one?
The Gamecube is damn simple to modify, being that you can get everything you need for like thirty bucks at Radio Shack (and a lot less if you already have a soldering iron). Only exception is that you want gamebits to open the box up, and those are cheap, but you have to buy online. Basically, the whole thing is, you unscrew the box, then work your way down until you get to a couple tiny mount points (well documented, though), solder on two wires that go to a switch, and then superglue the switch to the rear.
It's still a lot more effort than the boot disk, though.
Are they really going to take something out for the US Chaos Field? Modifying games for the US market so that the actual fans hate them is so 1990s. I figured I'd wait for that one in the US. I like that US games are in English and can be leant to my friends without drama, so I'll usually get the US release. Plus, it encourages them to keep translating whatever it is that I'm buying.

You got it. The pain in the arse about 'cube importing is that you MUST have a seperate Memory Card for JP/US/UK games. Attempting to save games from different regions on any card usually results in a full wipe.Well, the "erase what you do have" thing *might* just be the Jp game trying to see a Jp formatted card and seeing a US formatted one. With a switch modded cube that was more obvious to me, then. When I'm in Japan mode I can boot w/o a disk in it and see all the text in katakana, manage/format memory cards, etc.
I keep mine separate with those little colored star stickers you can buy at Wal*Mart. Gold star means primary, silver means backup. Blue means US, Red means Jp. So Silver and Blue is my backup of my US saves, etc.
Still haven't decided what to do with those green stars yet...

From my list of import games these titles save successfully when using a PAL memory card with the Freeloader:
US
Sonic Heroes
Megaman Anniversary Collection
Custom Robo
Wario Ware Inc.
Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joe 2
JP
Shikigami no Shiro II
Mobile Suit Gundam Gundam vs Z Gundam
Dream Mix TV World Fighters
Eternal Arcadia Legend
Puyo Puyo Fever
The only ones with problems are all my Naruto games. The above all save fine, I really hope CF will some how be OK.
