Here's one of the cooling mods:

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/360-12V-fan-Mod.htm

The results show a significant reduction in heat accross the processors.

What you have to do is do the X-clamp fix, search it on google

Yeah, that's one of them, but looking around, there are other additional mods you can do too, such as fitting additional fans (optionally creating additional ventilation points) and fitting additional heat sinks. A bit more digging is required to see which is considered the best method.

AFAIK, the "X" bracket heat sink mounts are 100% compatible w/ modern PC CPU heat sinks (the 360 I had opened up the other day said Foxconn on the hardware, which is a well known PC mobo mfg.). That means if you want to get crazy about preventing the RROD, you can cut a big hole in the top of your case and mount 2 huge CPU coolers.

BTW, I just received my $120 JP 360 yesterday. Works like a champ and everything was totally sealed and pristine, so I have no reason to believe it was anything other than new. I already ordered an RROD kit (the one's w/ the replacement washers and screws) which I am going to install before it RRODs. My understanding is that these aftermarket kits have a lower profile washer than the stock system, therefore putting more downward pressure on the CPU (and preventing chips from coming unsoldered in the future, in my case).

Im slowly getting to the point that i will shred some of my money on one of these. I live in the UK of course so if i could find a Jap360 for $120 that would mean a 360 for just £80 or so. If anyone has any good deals i would welcome the links.

$120 is cheap, but if you need to ship them from overseas into the UK, expect a postage bill of something like £50.

Having hearing about people having problems with the new Jasper units, I'd be inclined to wait a while longer. There are rumours abound that Microsoft are planning a complete redesign of the console (possibly to go with the Natal technology).

Just got my jp360 from that eBay seller! Totally legit! It's sealed, has everything included and is definitely Japanese (only Japanese language is on the box, not other Asian languages).

Now to copy my old hard drive image over the new one. :D

yeah i did that just using parts from the hardware store, to an already RROD'd 360 and it fixed it for several months, until the problem became worse and beyond my abilities to fix because it started throwing some other error.

I've come to believe that the best way to prolong your 360's life is to just keep it turned on as much as possible, so that it doesnt have to change temperature often, which is what stresses the solder (if only MS had used lead based solder)..

I was typing during cut scenes. Man I'm extremely happy with the seller and how fast it came in.

No taxes either which is a plus, I thought I'd have to shell out a bit for tax but there was none so that's a huge plus right there.

Death Smile really awesome btw. I can't wait for more 360 shmups.

It's those damn cutscenes!

edit: oh too late :D

I can't believe they didn't hack in a way to skip it for the console. Is there a way to skip them in 360 mode?

I can't believe they didn't ADD an option to skip all scenes in MBL even. But, it's nice to be able to sneak off into the bathroom mid game. Perhaps someone should time these so you know exactly how long they are?

Raiden IV isn't too bad either. Miles better than Raiden III.

I repaired a RROD 2005 one from a friend last week with a cheap Ebay repair set and was amazed it actually worked , also did a 12 volt cooling mod with fan control from 5 up to 11 volts , lapped the heat sinks and used AS 5 .
He played the hell out of it all week without probs .

It's not (yet?) a RROD. The console freezes and locks up completely a few seconds after i booted.
BTW it's modded so i guess sending it to Microsoft won't be an option.
Do you think it could be fixed with a regular RROD-fix?
