obscure street fighter alpha series question
Is Birdie really Abigail from final fight? sort of like the same way that Hugo from third strike was really Andore from final fight. the similarities between the 2 really make me wonder... with all the inflamed headbutts and obscenely high throws, who knows...

nope Birdie from alpha is Birdie from Street fighter 1. He has changed colour though as he used to look like a white skin head type and is now black (a change for the better i may add) I used to use him on alpha 2.

I was pretty sure i read somewhere that Hugo is not Andore but poision is still the same poision from Final fight. Dont know what the truth to that is though as she must be getting on a bit now

Heh, if memory serves in one of his win quotes he says something like "Oh? Before? I looked pale because I was sick!"Lordstar wrote:He has changed colour though as he used to look like a white skin head type and is now black (a change for the better i may add) I used to use him on alpha 2.
I was always under the impression that they were the same, though I might be wrong - isn't "Hugo" his first name and "Andore" his last? Maybe I assumed incorrectly...I was pretty sure i read somewhere that Hugo is not Andore
Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
I could be wrong I just dont folow street fighter cannon anymore its like trying to suck bricks though a straw. I just recall reading somewhere that He is not the same guy as in Final Fight I cant quote it though as I dont recall where i read it.

Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
No real mention of him being either way other then him being based on Andore. Still lots to say about poisionwiki wrote:Hugo - A professional wrestler who wants to find a strong tag team partner. He is often accompanied by his manager, Poison. Based on the Andore enemy character from Final Fight, also a direct nod to professional wrestler André the Giant. Hugo was planned to be in the first game, as evidenced by his mobile character with unfinished sprites, and the presence of his stage in New Generation. Voiced by Wataru Takagi in 2nd Impact and Len Carlson in 3rd Strike.

Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
Birdie has "always" been black. As BulletMagnet said, he was sickly pale in SFI.
Hugo is not the same as Andore just as Joe is not Cody just as M.Bison (boxer) is not Mike.
This has all been confirmed in All About Capcom.

Birdie wasn't sickly pale in SF1, he was Caucasian. No disease will make a black guy look like this:

Capcom just wanted to redesign him as a thick-lipped caricature and put a win quote in Alpha to poke fun at how ridiculous the change was.
Hugo looks almost identical to the Andore Jr. enemies from Final Fight and has one of the Poison enemies from Final Fight show up in his intro and ending. It's pretty clear where they got the character from.

Capcom should've just said he was a Michael Jackson tribute, kind of like Eagle and Freddie Mercury.

Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
Uh, vitiligo or hyperpigmentation can cause changes in color. That would've been a better reason obviously but I doubt anybody at Capcom spent more than 5 minutes before deciding the canon answer.Mortificator wrote:No disease will make a black guy look like this:

Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
I forgot about that quote. also the whole flaming headbutts and really stupidly high throws make me think they have to be one in the same, except for the reverse vitiligo going on, not really sure about that. I'm convinced they are really the same person, I can't see anything contradicting sense birdie was originally whiteBulletMagnet wrote:Heh, if memory serves in one of his win quotes he says something like "Oh? I've read that Huge is indeed Andore, and that his name was changed later to avoid comparison to andore the giant (despite him being based on andore the giant). This being because while Japan has no problem using unlicensed celebrity images in games, it's not so acceptable in the U.S., like with Big Boss from Metal Gear looking like Sean Conerry.
Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
Ah yes, the legendary Andore the Giant.

We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.
Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
That's why they spelled it Andore; it doesn't make any sense in this case because the name Andore was already used in all versions of Final Fight.Mad Mage wrote:I've read that Huge is indeed Andore, and that his name was changed later to avoid comparison to andore the giant (despite him being based on andore the giant). I don't know if Udon used him though so if they have, the canon might be different now.

Re: obscure street fighter alpha series question
*shrugs* Laws, managers, public opinion... stuff changes over time. There's any number of reasons why the guys in charge of Second Impact might have wanted to make the homage slightly less overt than the original Final Fight team did. For a kind of reverse situation, the first Duke game was called "Duke Nukum" because there was already a Catain Planet character called Duke Nukem, but after Apogee realized they weren't going to get sued they titled all the later games Nukem.Ganelon wrote:That's why they spelled it Andore; it doesn't make any sense in this case because the name Andore was already used in all versions of Final Fight.
