Hiya,
I'm very close to not having any excuse left to switch to Linux for good, just about the only thing I need to keep Windows around for is music production (Ableton Live + a myriad of VST softsynths and effects + kX drivers)
And shmups of course.
I'd like to know just how well Wine deals with these - most compatibility lists I've found deal with the usual Doom/Half-Life/Warcraft stuff, but what about Kamui? Steel Saviour? Kento Cho? The few thousands of others?
Would I be able to play them well in Wine?

Some Kenta Cho games have native Linux ports. Most Touhou games work fine in Wine (minor graphical glitches).

Re: Wine Shmupping
I've tried a lot of pc doujin shmups on wine, mostly without luck. I didn't mess around with wine settings a lot though.
Anyway, there are plenty of good shmups that run on linux. Check the linux shmup thread. Emulators are also a good option.

I play all the Touhou and X.X games under wine with no problems. A little bit more slow down than under windows but that is to be expected.
Haven't really tried anything else.

I'm not gonna lie; this is what I had in mind when I read the title.
