Getting a Jap360, Please could you help me on some querys!

Post by MADEIRA STEVE88 »

I finally caved in and order one from playasia, lol after cancelling and reordering.

Heres what i ordered -

Xbox 360 Arcade Console (New Xbox Experience) (Japan)

Raiden IV (Japan, NTSC J)

Price of everything inc shipping to the UK = US$ 454.70 (~279.55 GBP)

Questions which i would like to ask

1. Do i need an adapter for the 360 to work in the UK like a power socket adapter?

2. Can the 360 be set to English language, so that i understand the dash?

3. This is an April 2009 model, does that mean it is less likely to RROD?

4. Do i need to pay any Tax on this once it arrives in the UK?

5. How long does it take to arrive?

Thanks in advance guys and girls![/list]

Question #3 is most likely a yes. Unless I'm wrong, the RRoD appears less from models made sometime last year.

1. You can use a PAL Xbox 360 power supply with it. The one it comes with is useless in the UK as it's 110v and has a 2 prong plug.

2. Yes, but not for stuff on the JP marketplace.

3. It's a grey area, nobody knows for sure. Newer models have a lower ratio of dying but they still die.

4. Since you're in the UK and it most likely isn't going to be marked as a gift, being Play-Asia and all, yes.

5. Depends on the shipping service you chose. I really hope you didn't use UPS.

I used UPS too, and it cost me about 50 euros (in your currency) just to get it out of customs. I've never been charged for any other item through EMS, and I've bought stuff well over $500 in one lot before. I definitely will not be using UPS again.

Luck of the draw.

I've had stuff via EMS that has been charged, stuff via UPS that hasn't been charged, and stuff via FedEx that has and hasn't been charged.

Just factor the risk into the purchase, and be extra happy if it comes through without fees :)

As you're in the UK, that seems like an ok deal. As I live within the EU, I still have to deal with taxes and whatnot from the UK, so I got mine from Japan directly.

Yes, I've had to pay UPS a shit-tonne before now, on the doorstep as well, which I'm sure is illegal :?

If I get a JX360, I'm going to get one off eBay, I think.

Just here to say that pretty much anything I've ever ordered from Japan* got held at customs, had to pay VAT + a nasty holding fee...

* mostly touhou games

6. To get online to post scores and download updates you need a harddrive (no HD included with Arcade package!), will any US packaged xbox HD work?

7. Can I buy points or use US point cards for japanese online account?

play-asia are pretty good if you ask them to mark down the item cost, trouble is U.K. customs kicks in at £18 so you are best just asking for the marked value to be halved or something. for games it shouldnt make a difference, but for a console you'd still get a customs charge, altho if it gets lost in the post you wouldnt be covered for the full console cost obv.

you've probs gone the right option and used vgi altho their games are a little more expensive than ordering from pa, depends if waiting a week is worth £10 extra or not....

Y'know, seeing this thread right next to this one makes me think we ought to consolidate a bit - please direct further queries about the J360 to the previously-linked thread.
