Spent the evening listening to the Columbia compilation Monk Alone.

Regarding Faust, here's the classic album line-up:

self-titled
so-far
tapes
4
munich and elsewhere

The problem is, they lost their record label support after 4 and no one gave a shit about them then, so munich got lost in the shuffle. It's really unfortunate, because munich is among their most daring albums (along with tapes and the self-titled album); it's very much worth your time.

Personally I wouldn't bother with any of the later faust, but I've only heard a couple of the later albums so perhaps there's still something good there.

Listening to the new Voivod album 'Infini'. Snake sounds a bit knackered on here... Still, Piggy's left-over riffs and solos are still better than most people can manage, so it's worth a listen. Probably for the best if they call it a day after this though.

What do you guys know about The Jam? Are they a pretty good album band or should I get a singles album?

I heard Morrissey doing a live cover of "That's Entertainment" on the radio, then as soon as I got home I watched the video on Youtube. Badass song. I want to hear more.

Start is one of my favourite tracks and still sounds modern today IMO. One of my mates was obsessed with them when we were young, but I only really dig a few of their records.

As for current albums, Major Lazer - Guns don't kill people, lazers do. Nice diplo and switch produced stupidity.

Good song, don't know if it moved me as much as That's Entertainment but does make me want to look into them more. What I loved about that song was the lyrics and how they reminded me of Gang of Four but didn't have that anxious groove to it in the music, not that I don't like that. It's just very simple and effective and catchy. I was mad that I hadn't heard it sooner.

My mind was more blown by that Major Lazer track. I watched that like three times. Makes me want to play with action figures!

Melechesh - Emissaries -- like Absu at their best (Tara)
Lord Weird Slough Feg - Twilight of the Idols -- major bonus points for covering/salvaging "The Wizard's Vengeance"
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead -- the best
Charalambides - Market Square -- vinyl rip dusted off for some Fallout 3, perfect fit
Sleep's Holy Mountain -- Dragonaut outside of a crappy movie I heard it in recently, awesome

I believe there was a faust 'party' series, as these are collected on my copy of Munich & Elsewhere. Cool you've got the original vinyl though!

Just saw Thou live, awesome gig, tiny venue. Could have licked the bassist's strings had I stuck out my tongue. I'd really been enjoying their 'Peasant' and 'Tyrant' albums, so it was a real treat, and they shoved in a Black Sabbath cover for good measure. Awesome.

What was the name of that cool Daft Punk music video that features anime by the famous Star Blazers anime creator? I recall watching it in it's entirety once back in 2002 and would like to watch it again on YouTube. ^_~

Thanks in advance for your help with this Daft Punk related question...

Thanks for the help on that, Lloyd Mangram. ^_~

I found the proper title called "Daft Punk & Leji Matsumoto's Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem". Apparently, it's an little over an hour long anime music video with Matsumoto's trademarked style and aestethics.

Re. The Jam

Very enjoyable pop-punk band. Check out Town Called Malice for classic Jam.

I have their complete works in a multi CD set which cost me about £30 and I would definately recommend that one.

Also

The Aphex Twin - Classics
Aphex Twin - Hangable Auto Bulb
Iggy Pop - The Idiot

and for chilling out
Delerium - Semantic Spaces.

Seriously how I missed this band in the 90's I'll never know this album is awesome if you enjoy 90's alt rock even a little bit.

Just an FYI, they just released a Black Sabbath cover record on Vendetta called "Through the Empires of Eternal Void EP" limited to 300 copies on vinyl... Or downloadable for free from their website:

I'll have to check that out! I wanted to get to the merch stand, but there was a huge crush and I had a bus to catch :(

Moloch were awesome! Lots of noise, feedback, bass squalls and amplifier worship. Deffo my kind of sludge. I really wished I got their 10". They're local, so it shouldn't be too hard to catch them again :D

It feels like the 1980s again in several places on this album, really enjoying it.

Hex Dispensers - Winchester Mystery House

These guys scorched at last night's Sugar Shack reunion show. Still my favorite band by a country mile.

also:

The Reds - "Red's Theme Song" 7"
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
DJ Cam - Mad Blunted Jazz
Legion - Saviour EP
John Coltrane Quartet - Crescent

I saw these guys twice at SXSW this year and enjoyed them both times. They weren't necessarily what I'd usually be into. Still, there was something compelling about 'em.
