Should be good times for all(unless you're not a fan of Strikers...like me =(Like playing arcade shooters on your PSP? Strikers 1945 Plus is a game to look out for. The portable version of Psikyo’s Strikers is coming to North America. PM Studios, the company that brought DJ Max outside of Asia, is publishing Strikers 1945 Plus domestically, but only as a PlayStation Network download. Earlier this year, Strikers 1945 Plus was released as a retail game in Hong Kong and Korea.
The “Plus” in Strikers 1945 Plus refers to revamped graphics and a new endless play mode created for the PSP. Strikes 1945 Plus also has an ad-hoc cooperative mode and six planes to play with.

Strikers 1945 Plus is horizontally-oriented and features giant bars on both sides of the screen for # of lives, score, and all that jazz. It's similar to what most shooters do if the player doesn't have TATE enabled. It's a little odd but eh oh well.Seelen wrote:it's not terrible...worth the d/l for $5 or whatever. How are they going to pull it off on the psp though with the aspect ratio what it is?

i used to play this on NeoGeo emu for teh PSP... but when it came out, i got it, and WOW. the game runs FAST on that machine, and the graphics are pretty crisp... i wouldnt play it on a widescreen, like a TV, but on the PSP its just as good as it gets.
not realy recommended, but if oyu lke the game in arcades (neo geo) you should get this one too.

Plus is decent, not as good as Strikers II but probably better than Strikers III.
Anyone know if this version will start you with two lives or three? That was one big annoyance I had with Plus, had to change the settings in MAME to start with 3 lives.

At least on the ROM I've played in MAME, it actually defaults to one you use, and one in stock, which is two total (rather than the usual three that almost every other shmup gives you). I thought it was very strange.Kaspal wrote:by default, one you use, 2 in stock... AFAIRkengou wrote:Plus is decent, not as good as Strikers II but probably better than Strikers III.

Just my preference between the styles of Plus and III. I just don't like III too much, whereas II is a fantastic game. Plus is closer to II than III in design.louisg wrote:Hmm how so? Looks like I'll be importing this one as well, then. I'm not into the digital distribution thing if I don't have to be. I prefer the physical media whenever possible.XERO wrote:it is already out as a UMD....got mine awhile ago from PA.

I just played through a couple levels and errm.... No boss music? It just keeps playing the stage music. Is this normal?

I want to get this, but I use custom firmware that emulates official firmware 5.0x (specifically, version 5.00 M33-6)... what version of firmware is required? Has anyone else with CFW gotten this? Thanks.
BTW, if it means anything, we had the MVS version of this in our campus game room at school (SUNY-Binghamton) and it was always 2 lives...all of their games were usually on default settings so I assumed that was the default.

It requires the latest firmware (5.51) weirdly enough.
Re: Strikers 1945 Plus is PSN/PSP bound...
A warning too (if it's needed)... this is a very cheap, bare bones port. There's the regular mode, and if you hit continue it just switches to a random endless mode as far as I can tell, a two player mode, a ten position scoreboard, and that's it - the total contents of the release.
You do only start with two lives total and there's no way to adjust that which may add to one's frustration (as the game is obviously harder to control on a psp + the small screen).
It just doesn't feel like a full release, more like it should be part of a compilation. Even the relative cheap $12.00 asking price feels like too much

No. The PSP was designed for three things, and three things only. Monster Hunter, DJMAX and Disgaea.PepsimanVsJoe wrote:Like playing arcade shooters on your PSP?

Most Japanese game centers charge 100 yen for the latest arcade game offerings but sometimes charge 50 yen per credit for the older arcade shmup classics. Just depends on what the arcade operator wants to charge. ^_~professor ganson wrote:I believe it was a regional difference to deal with the difference in value between the yen (or whatever the relevant coin is) and a US quarter. With the MVS cart you can adjust to the setting you prefer.

You forgot Puzzle Quest. And Initial D.Elixir wrote:No. The PSP was designed for three things, and three things only. Monster Hunter, DJMAX and Disgaea.PepsimanVsJoe wrote:Like playing arcade shooters on your PSP?
And Dracula X Chronicles.

Dracula X would count (I own the JP version, actually; it's the only PSP game I own currently) if the games weren't available elsewhere. The remade Rondo isn't that great.
Puzzle Quest is on a billion other platformers as well.
Initial D is not meant to be played with a PSP. You will understand if you see the PS3 version or 5th Stage in action. Then again, DJMAX is not meant to be played with a PSP either, but it seems to do a good job of it. I would personally prefer a keyboard, but oh well.

Oh, and Lumines.
Initial D PSP is passable for the most part. Good music, and it's Initial D V3 on the go, which is good enough for me. The controls are awkward, but I managed.
I like the system in general, especially if you factor in all the extra functionality it has. Shame there's not that much of value for it on the PSN yet, but they could fix that with a little effort.

Ugh...oh well, I guess if I can update the custom firmware eventually, I'll be able to play it in due time.jefflev13 wrote:It requires the latest firmware (5.51) weirdly enough.
I know it's really bare-bones and it kind of stinks that you don't even get basic options, but I probably spent more than 12 bucks on the MVS version anyway.
EDIT: the latest custom firmware, for those interested, seems to be based on 5.50. So even if we update we can't play it yet. =( Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Sticking w/ my 1945 PCB and MAME...when you have to pay for games you should be able to emulate on the PSP it's a sad thing. More original titles plx

And you left out the only port of Xexex!
I also support Dracula X Chronicles being included, though I prefer the PCE version.
