Just got my copy! Loving it so far, but I guess I should head to the strategy forum to figure out how to score some points. Seems a little easy so far. My second attempt got me to the second to last stage (extra it was called) on one credit and I'm no pro.

Now try playing the stages on rank level 3. All of them.

Yeah, I didn't realize I was playing it as easy as possible. I've been enjoying it a lot more after kicking the rank up. The C levels wreck me at higher ranks.

You can play on any rank you want and finsihing the game with the Canyon stage will still be quite difficult. I think I would try that before going through all the stages with rank 3.

I like to make sure that when we play ST you're fully distracted thinking of the beautiful Astro Cab I'm playing on. ;)

I'm getting better at figuring which ranks are good for which levels for me. The volcano, for instance, is easiest for me on Rank 3 because I can get my power-up very quickly and then cruise through the stage racking in the points, and the third form of the boss is super easy anyways, it's only the first form that gives me trouble. A-1 however I like to turn the rank down a little bit because DeathScythe's third attack always gets me panic-bombing.

It's all about the order you play them in too. I'm still not convinced of my route for scoring.

I make sure I chose two levels (A-1 and B-1) at lvl 2 and the rest at lvl 3, to avoid that crazy manic mode. Are people finding that just committing to doing them all on lvl.3 and facing the manic mode is the best way to score points?

It's the best way to score points (since cancelling suicide bullets is good for score on vanilla), but I'm too crappy to play all stages at Level 3 (though I do play all stages at level 3 on MegaBlack).

I tend to go C-1(3)->A-2(3)->A-1(2)->B-2(2)->B-1(3)->C-2(3) - it's not optimal, but I enjoy the game more that route. That way I also get a full life on C-2, and a half life on B-2.

If I'm playing all at level 3 I go: C-1->A-2->B-1->B-2->A-1->C-2

The ranking of the stage (at level 3) increases the later you leave it. I find that makes the volcano great for score when I leave it last!

Me too, so I'm doing something right! Do you struggle to score off of lvl B-1 on that route? Actually - I do A-2 on 3 and B-1 on 2. Maybe that's the reason. Can you still milk A-2 for points on 2, as you can with A-1 (I find lvl 2 or 3 is pretty similar for scoring on A-1).

And MADEIRA STEVE88 - your sig says no shmup love in the UK, but you live in London. Do you ever go to Casino Arcade? It's got a few shmups in, and a really freindly shmup crew. We use that thread to see who is going down when...

I really love it. I just got it a few days ago, and I already 1CC'd it. It is a little easy yeah, but the reason I managed to clear it so quickly was because I put a lot of time into it in the last few days because it's really addicting in a way other Cave games aren't for me. Usually I'll just play through the first 3 or 4 levels of DDP DOJ a few times or give one good go at ESPGaluda, but Deathsmiles I can just keep going back to over and over. I guess it's a combination of the level and rank select options letting me change the experience each time and try to find new routes I like.

The menus are all in English, including the button config, so you shouldn't have any problems with that. Just check the Strategy section to get the hang of the scoring system if you haven't already.

I learned my lesson last night about playing on Score Attack mode: don't do it. If you're connection to XBOX Live drops for some reason, it ENDS YOUR GAME. Yup, it just quits right back to the main menu. Nice work, Cave.

That's fucking awesome, 1.1 is the best mode ever.

so how high should we expect 1.1 MBL scores to get?

It would be fair to assume that this will become an update patch for MBL.

Doesn't sound PCB-ish to me.
