The Romance of the Three Kingdoms series
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms series
Any fans here? With the looming release of part X I was wondering if anyone here liked the series or played it with any regularity.
The customization is all there, and each of the console versions (the games still come out on PC first, in Japan) is wonderfully adapted to gamepad controls. Seriously, they're some of the most efficient menuing systems in any console game, and the joypad controls don't hold the game back at all.Andi wrote:Yes, but I haven't played any of the recent ones and probably never will get a chance (I don't own a new console). I enjoy them, but I've always felt that they suffered from not being released on a PC with all the customization (and mouse control) of most PC strategy titles.
I just got into this series a couple of months ago with RTK8 and I'm loving it. I'm definitely getting RTK X on its release date. I wrote a few blog entries about getting into the series and regarding what I like about it:

Good write-up. It pretty much describes why I like the series so much.
I started with VII and played some of the earlier and later games, but for some reason it still remains my favorite. Objectively VIII is the better game, but there's also a lot more to it. VII has the role-playing element that I love while still being relatively simple compared to VIII. Still, X has me really excited.
Incidentally, your last post asked if there were any strategy games on the console like this. The closest I can think of is Dragon Force, which is kind of like ROT3K for idiots. It's still a really fun game, though.
