This of course means it's pretty much pointless to play the game for survival as well.

Woké, so there's really no reason to play the game twice then.Udderdude wrote:It appears that there's no limit on the number of extends you get from this trick, so yeah, you can get infinite lives. Plasmo mentioned this too.captpain wrote:(and infinite lives?).

regarding getting "skilled knowledgable players" to play-test, don't forget that even the mighty cave fucked up on DFK, and that was play-tested by world-class shmupper RAM. esprade's excessive boss milking. guwange counterstop. mars matric (arcade) can be counter-stopped at stage3. etc etc
it's unfortunate, but mistakes do happen.

What if the game itself isn't fun to begin with?RHE wrote:everything you do that's make it less fun is cheating.

Sure. My philosphy is to play games as they are fun to the most extend. Like a game offers a super powerfull weapon that destroys a boss with one shot, then I don't use it. It's cheating. Is a game not fun at all to someone, then you have to pass on it. I actually don't quite get the question.
With scoring this is another thing. to play seriously on score there needs to be a balance that's valid for all kind of players, irrelevent from their taste.
That titican one is pretty funny, btw.

I've been sitting here trying to think of a nice way of handling this and I've come to the following conclusion.
Nobody wants to play your half-assed westernized eurotrash shmup that's broken and straight out of 1997. The fact that you are charging such a price for shovelware is amazing. Patch the game and people will stop complaining, since defending it obviously isn't your strong point.
I didn't handle this response very well but I'm going with it

You can't honestly be saying that you expect that people are going to try to adjust their play style to get maximum fun out of a game with broken or horribly unbalanced features. Apart from mouthbreathers and 13 year olds, that is.RHE wrote:Sure. My philosphy is to play games as they are fun to the most extend. Think about it: I can try to milk a bit of fun out of a game that I can counterstop on the first stage, and I have to avoid things and restrict myself, or I can put Dai Ou Jou into my PS2, a game in which I can get fun from using every trick I can imagine to even just clear it, let alone score well.
And your balance/scoring thing? The sky is blue. What's your point?
I haven't even played the game but I just can't stand seeing RHE damage his own reputation so much...
If the scoring system allows for infinite score, it is bugged and should be fixed. It is not "cheating" to exploit a scoring system in a shmup, because that's the entire point of scoring: to exploit the scoring system. A good game will challenge the player to do their best, not to skip the most powerful/beneficial techniques in order to keep any sort of challenge. Mistakes happen and I'm going to assume that infinite scoring was unintentional, in which case you should either fix it, or if you can't afford to do such a thing (which seems likely considering its an independent effort), at least just apologize for the bugs instead of acting like it's a matter of preference or calling it cheating.
Seeing as you are an independent developer making a shmup I'd like to side with you on this but you're just trying so damn hard to make everyone hate you, it's incredible.

The game isn't half-assed, its not westernized, and it's not euro trash. And every modern shmups is from 1997 by fact. And even more important, you don't play it, you dont know anything about it. I also find i'm asking to less for the game, its quality is on paar with mile stone for sure. And they ask way more then I do.
To the captpain of the sinking titanic: I'm just chatting with people here you know. The DUX bug scoring thing is, for me, not a subject to talk about anymore, until it's bug fix. That's my point.
To ncp: I don't care for reputation. I'm just telling what I think is right. It took a minute to find that bug for plasmo and it takes a few weeks to bug fix it. There's nothing to talk about anymore. It's just that some people think they have to get me to aknowledge my mistakes.
Note, most people who complain here are people who don't know the game. They're just acting by reflex. The only people who have a right to complain, are those who pay money for the game. And those are getting a bug fix for free.

And yes it is, yes it is, and yes it is.
Reading about the bug and the missing loops, I am so goddamn glad that I cancelled my order of this game a day before its release.
And I have to say the way RHE behaves (his arrogant demeanour towards his customers in the course of this whole thread, his unwillingness to admit his mistakes, always having the last word and giving sloppy answers) leaves me the feeling that I maybe do not want to support such a person in his future projects.
I think we can all learn something important from that:
It shows how much damage a bad puplic relations department can do to a company. And that not everybody is suited for such a job.
I really hope that he will reconsider the way he presents himself in this forum.

He should also learn another very important lesson: it's true, if you're the game programmer/responsible, advertising on forums can be good for your sales.
But users feel immediately the urge to ask, to demand, to change stuff and feel offended if you don't listen to them - this can result in a backslash like you're suffering now, RHE.
If you didn't say anything at all, you'd probably enjoy the rank of "mysterious shmup saver" and "DC fan" and your game would've enjoyed a much higher status. If the users don't know who you are and who your team is, they're ready to forgive as they don't know who to complain to.
That's why lots of programmers don't have official forums and that's why Cave people, for example, don't care about coming here and explaining how they are doing with Death Smiles 2. If they did, probably lots of people here would feel offended about how crappy they are, how their 3D sucks and if Cave comes up with arrogant replies, people here would start being upset, cancelling orders and so on.
Next time, RHE, shut the hell up
you'll really feel the difference
show your face to the customers and they'll literally eat you alive.

Yes, Please do RHE.antares wrote:While you're at it please iron out the other bugs/disappointments too:RHE wrote: Ineed. For my customers I'm going to offer a solution soon.
- Continue Bug (you can not not continue)
- The score should start at 0 when you continue or at least the last digit should count the number of continues as in several other shmups.
If the scoring thing and these 2 annoyances are ironed out, this would
be a neat effort.
Especially the continue bug is annoying, since I have to "restart" every time to play fair.
Otherwise I do enjoy playing it, and don't regret buying it.
That is if you iron these things out.

For me its irrelevant if it happens at stage 1 or 6. That's depending on taste.
It's not really a bug, This scoring system itself works, it's just one small mistake. Not a drama at all , its still fine for other players.

And by the way, i think my fellow french guy who get is order cancelled for " lacking of respect " should be happy to get is money back.
