Top 5
Usually, I prefer doing a "top five" to a "top 10", because the larger your list is, the more likely you're going to include things for "political" reasons, i.e., "I need to make sure that there's an entry for cave, treasure, toaplan, compile, psikyo, etc".
Of course, then my list looks like this:
1) Ikaruga
2) DDP-DOJ
3) ESP.Ra.de
4) DoDonPachi
5) Bangaioh
Now, we all love Cave and Treasure, so there isn't going to be too much controversy there. So, on my second go, I tried to mix things up a bit.
1) Ikaruga (Treasure)
2) DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou (Cave)
3) Zanac Neo (Compile)
4) RayForce (Taito)
5) Cannon Spike (Capcom/Psikyo)

Heh I guess so..Metal Gear Okt wrote:See, from that list i'd say you're a bigger fan than I am of the "claustrophobia" type shooters.

I like afew more companies/shooter series but most of my time is spent playing those.
I used to play alot more but It was mostly not all 100% enjoyment on my part.
So I'm finally playing what I like 100% and not 80%
*I hope my post sort of makes sense*

Cool I've yet to play those titles, although I've seen a copy of Zanac X Zanac around (Shame I need the £60 for something else atm)Metal Gear Okt wrote:Oh, completely. For me, it's the difference between playing Gradius V just because it's supposed to be brilliant and playing something like Zanac Neo because I love it.

It's a stylistic connection. I tend to think of Zanac Neo as Raiden with a more fleshed-out weapons system*.Rob wrote:What do these games have to do with each other?Metal Gear Okt wrote:If you're a fan of Raiden, you'd love ZxZ.
*I'm aware that the original Zanac predates Raiden by a few years, but Raiden is by far the more popular game.
** If i had to describe Zanac Neo to someone who doesn't know Compile from Cave, "like Raiden" is closer than "like R-type" or "like Gradius".

My five current plays:
1)- Ikaruga (GC)
2)- DoDonPachi (MAME)
3)- Blazing Star (MAME)
4)- Shikigami No Shiro II (GC)
5)- Aero Fighters (MAME and SNES)
Interestingly, Ikaruga is the only game that can really get past my normal "I want there to be at least two completely different ship types in this game" snobbishness.
