Question:- I'm only there for the Sat 18th. Will the Comps be independant One-Dayers? This would be better for people who can only make it down for 1 day.

EDIT:- I have the 1 day ticket, but I haven't booked a Comp ticket. Can Comp tickets be bought on the spot on the day once you're inside?
I'll have to speak to Poolchamp about these details, but I think as a lot of people are making one-day visits, two independent comps is a very good idea, or at least some system that makes it worth entering if you're only there for one day.

Personally, I'd hope to be able to just let people sign up on the day in the hour before the comp, but we'll see how Mr. Champ wants to run things...
Hi all .
Just seen this post .
Wil you have total control to run it (Time ,day/s,entry ) This is your comp to run it how you want you will have your 8 machines in the comps area and a stage for the final although some stage time slots are taken .
If you wanted to split the money in two and have same each they thats fine with me also maybe charge an entry of £1 to top up the prize money a bit .
But im flexable to what you need or want .
If you also need help i can sort that too .
Here it the rundown of the cosplay comp so you can compare

Cosplay Clash Schedule:

10.00am - Doors Open

When entering the event Cosplayers should be directed towards the Ready Up staff for 11am.

11.00am - Initial registration.

Takes place in the Ready Up Cosplay Clash ‘area’. Entrant details, theme music and reference photo is taken.

1:00pm - Registration closes.

2.00pm - First round

Entrants show their costumes to the judges and will have a chance to talk about how they created it and some background on the character/game. Depending on the number of entrants a we may limit the number of entrants will continue to the second round.

4.00pm - Second Round

Takes place on a staged area in public view with access to PA or audio system. Entrants try to win the judges over with poses and performances mimicking their video game characters. If they have provided music for this section it will be played, otherwise some ‘stock’ music will be used. From this show a top three or five finalists will be chosen.

5.00pm - Final Round

Back at the staged area the finalists return for the final, all on stage together they get a chance to strike a few poses and we get the crowd going. Depending on the crowd attendance we can let them decide a winner from cheering or let the judges pick.

5.45pm approx - (After the final) Photo session. Meet the winners, meet the judges and meet fellow cosplayers.

Now thats not to say your to run yours anything like that .

But each comp team will have there list done out so they dont run into each other .

After all its just going to be fun and the losers will have 200+ machines in main area to practice on and play afterwards .

Ps Best of luck to all and thanks for letting me fill your time with some funtimes

Regards Alan

This. I'd be kind of upset if I missed out on playing Daifukkatsu say, because there was a tournament based around it and I didn't get a chance to play it :(

Right, I'm devising the final plan for this tonight. That's my deadline poolchamp - and sorry for any slackness on my behalf! Busy times!

Sounds like this newfangled Insert Coin '09 show/expo is the place to be for those lucky enough to attend it. ^_~

For the fellas across the pond, there's the upcoming California Extreme 2009 show this coming July 11-12, 2009...will be in it's 12th year since it's inception back in 1997. Should be awesome to see what new and rare arcade/pinball prototypes to digress/play over. ^_~

As I sit here trying to make decisions, these are my thoughts...

• I'm 100% on doing two separate tournies - one on each day, just so everyone possible can enter one. So splitting the prize money. It would be nice if the winner of day one could do a head-to-head with the winner of day two so we could have an overall winner, but I guess we can't guarantee that.

• We don't want to make it too big a deal, or two time consuming for entrants, as if I were entering I wouldn't want it to eat up my whole day.

- So, I'm thinking head-to-heads for distance, score-attack modes on set levels, boss rush modes.

• I'm also thinking a general knock out/cup, because that means it ends on one final face off. It means not every round takes forever as a points based tournie would. It means it is flexible for a widely varied number of players, as I have no idea how many we'll get.

• So I'm thinking four to six rounds, and these are the games I'm thinking. I could do with some suggestions for what we have for each round...

- Pink Sweets Score Attack (Stage 6) Comp
- Ketsui 1-life survival challenge. I really like the idea of this. Good first round
- Batrider Special Course distance comp
- Death Smiles 'All lvl 3' scoring comp
- Double Play round (A Raiden/Dogyuun)?
- Psyvariar 2 'Level-Up' competition (1-life)

poolchamp! Anychance of a Raiden DX, III or IV at the event? I'd love to do a Double Play round. I could bring my Raiden II PCB for that actually.

So - my questions to you all.

1) Too much of a Cave bias? I think there's a case to argue that, but I think the games do suit nice short rounds

2) Any suggestions for the best Raizing game for Boss Rush to replace one of the above?

3) The best of the above for the final, and the best for the first stage?

As I write, I'm really tempted to go for four rounds, just to keep from overdoing it.

What I want:

• This to be fun for newcomers and the hardcore.
• This to be easygoing and not hog the whole day for all of you.
• Either Skykid or Lordstar doing a piece of contemporary ballet for the winner!
• Me to be dressed as Walter Day. Anybody got a spare beard and refs outfit? That's a joke, but as I write I think maybe I should. I can't play guitar, so I'm halfway there! Actually, I got an email from Walter Day the other day, but that's another story...

I've got a final plan in mind, and poolchamp, I'll write a blurb for the website tomorrow, but it's not too late for input if any of you have any ideas, and I really appreciate the help. Honestly, I will dress as Walter day as a thank you...

I want a bigger beard though.

I'm not sure the current list is going to appeal to newcomers tbh. A knock out torney with Raizing's trademark Bullshit Bullets and 1-life contests might alienat/frustrate a lot of people. Though I guess if they have time to practice on those games before hand maybe it won't be so bad.

The 1 life contests are the only way to go, it'll speed up the whole thing.
As for special courses, Pink Sweets and Batrider Special Courses would work just fine.

- Pink Sweets Score Attack (Stage 6) Comp
- Ketsui 1-life survival challenge. I really like the idea of this. Good first round
- Batrider Special Course distance comp

I see what you mean, but whatever I choose, thanks to the nature of shmups, it's never going to be that welcoming.

What I meant was, newcomers to particular games, rather than newcomers to the genre.

Also, I'll collect money on the day (£1 each), but if you know already that you definately want to enter, please tell me here, and say which day...

That's a good suggestion. I need something crazy easy that doesn't last forever. Any suggestions?

And sorry ( ) I didn't quite make my Monday night deadline, but I'm so close.

I'll send you that blurb over later poolchamp. It's nearly done...

i like these game choices :)

i'm trying to think of what would be easy and short so newbies dont get knocked out straight away. a raizing training course maybe? a twin cobra one life could be pretty fun as well unless people start looping it on one life :x

Oh what way would be best... make 2 people play against each other all the time. Or do a knockout type where the lowest scoring people get knocked out of each round.

Got not much idea on what games to choose, Feveron Time Attack mode would be good, well if it wasn't used in the STGT... I don't like the idea of Psyvariar 2 - 1 life.. I always lose one right at the start :D

Please do tell us what Mr. Day had to say about this IC '09 show, spadgy. And will Walter Day make a personal appearance at this upcoming Insert Coin '09 show or what?

I recall meeting him at both the 2004 and 2005 California Extreme shows. Nice guy btw. He was dressed in his trademarked referee garb as usual. ^_~

err yes its most likely, I was playing it recently. Mulletgeezer can 1 life the first loop too. So that's a no-go, with 10 long stages.

Anyway, spadgy - count me in for the Ketsui 1 life, Batrider Special Course (1 credit distance or score - doesn't matter) and Pink Sweets Score Attack. I can pay whenever you want.

He just emailed my work email address (I work for Develop magazine), so it's nothing to do with IC09. He just asked me if he could send me some information about something he is planning, and now I haven't heard back!

The comp is £1 entry. £100 for DEL!

Re: Advice for devising a shmup tournament wanted

Right, after lots of talking on here in in the real world to all kinds of people, I'm going with three rounds, so for those visiting for one day it doesn't dominate their whole trip (there's so much else to do!).

So, these are the rounds, and the boards I'll need please poolchamp... More than one Ketsui and Pink Sweets if possible?

Round One - Ketsui 1-life survival challenge (Knock out round, depending on how many enter, a set number will go through (probably half), based on score. Might up it to three lives if people think it makes sence as most people will only play this round).
Round Two - Pink Sweets Score Attack (Stage 6) (One round - two highest scorers enter the final)
Round Three - Batrider Special Course distance comp (All defaults - Highest score wins!)

Same comp for both days I think, to attract more people to return the second day...

Hmmm.

If it's not too late, perhaps a Trouble Witches first round would present a nice first round - it would pose a level playing field, and get us all to play a new shooter in the way it should be - in a comp.

Also, you have numerous boards. Is it too late to make this a four round toruny with a Trouble Witches first round? Andbody know the game well enough to suggest if we go for a 1 credit challenge or level/1 life score attack?
