I mean, I know that not every arcade release makes it onto a console, not by a long stretch, but some do. Why would I fork out for the Mushi Futari official DVD when the home port's just around the corner and will presumably allow me to watch the replay of any player who decides to record one?
Extras, the allure of a physical copy, ability to watch on any DVD player instead of being tied to your console.

A lot of the same reasons that kept DVDs alive when sites like nico and youtube hit.

The ability to watch on any DVD player -- that is only if the superplay DVD is Region 0. Otherwise, a multi-region DVD player or DVD region X boot disc on the ProAction Replay PS2 disc works wonders for playing Region 2 DVDs. ^_~

Everything costs more in Japan: Starting w/ rent... the rest trickles down.
japan has strict no gambling laws,
Which are rife with loop holes (read: Pachinko).

Hehe, looks like your offer wasn't good enough :)

And why so? Really, some of those folks are more elusive, shy and obscure than freemasonry.
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

It really looks like there is no amazing DonPachi material out there, which could be a reason why they don't want to show anything...
It would be really great to watch too, to keep that 5 million stage bonus going. It is something I don't plan to do ;)

I just found it strange that the guy said "ANY amount of money." What if I had just won the mega-millions lottery and was going to offer him 25 million for a replay? I guess it is his loss. :D

There were two other instances with Japanese players where I was supposed to get a donpachi replay. Of course those also fell through.

I think the worlds only hope to see a 70m+ donpachi replay is for SJK to release one. Unfortunately, he has no plans to make one in the near future. :D

I've always dreamed of a world where people offered their own super plays on DVDR vs. on the Super Play website, or buying super play DVDs at hefty prices.

Does anyone have any personal DVDR super plays of them playing Radirgy (DC), Gunbird (DC) or... well, I'd actually be interested in any DC shmup. Also interested in Super R-Type, Super Earth Defense Force, and Contra III, all for SNES.

He would definitely make a Point Blank video though :P
I would have to be insane to even attempt for 70m! The length of the game alone just turns me away :(

The Japanese government highly regulates the cost and sale of media in Japan.

This is why CDs and DVDs cost so much. If you look at the obi strip on a CD you will see where, by law, the government has mandated used/resale prices.

This is why Japanese releases of music and DVDs often come with extra tracks or features not found on the western release. It's to get Japanese consumers to purchase the local release instead of importing the cheaper versions.
