Gradius 4 Emulation
Gradius 4 Emulation
Is there any successful Gradius 4 emulation? I've got xmame and PCSX2 on Linux but they both just crash when loading and I hear on Windows there's terrible slowdown...
I haven't tried PCSX2 but with MAME32 it emulates but pretty slowly on my machine.
I ended up shelling out for the PS2 collection because of the poor emulation. It's not expensive, so if you have a PS2 you might consider that.

Yeah, the actual emulation is fine in MAME, it's just incredibly slow. I don't know if any PC commercially available now would be able to run it at full speed. You'd probably need a clockspeed of 8 GHz or something.
Last I heard, PCSX2 runs the game (with a couple of glitches). The Linux version of the emulator isn't up to the level of the Windows one, though I don't know if it's a problem on the emulator's end or on yours that prevents you from running it.
It'd probably be simplest to just buy one of the collections for PS2 or PSP. It's not like G4 is some arcade-only Japanese-only game that you'd need to build a supergun and import a board for.

That was my thought too. It's actually my least favorite Gradius, I think, but I'm still glad I have a complete Gradius collection now. And some people like it. It depends on your tastes I suppose.mjclark wrote:Indeed-Gradius III and IV collection for PS2 is only about £12 on eBay so it's probably worth shelling out for.
Gradius 4 is the only gradius i havn't played and I here that it's not up to the rest of the series, but you gotta catch 'em all
