Or is Border Down the closest thing we're going to get? A Taito, G-Rev, Zuntata collaboration would be awesome. And no Darius R doesn't count

With Taito still owning the rights, it would probably a totally different team than the now G-Rev crew that worked on G-Darius. In that case, maybe it's a bad idea that I brought it up.
I really like where the direction the series was going with G-Darius, just sad to see it end. There have been a few Darius audio CD's released over the pass few years, so maybe there's hope.

It sure would be nice if Taito would do a proper sequel to it's G-Darius arcade PCB. It would seem that a joint collaboration between Taito and G.Rev to do such a proper arcade Darius sequel title would be fitting.
Until then, we'll just have to content with the versions 1 & 2 iterations of Taito FX-1B powered G-Darius PCB for the time being even though that harkens back to 1997 -- it still remains to this very day, the final swan song in the Darius series. ^_~
What arcade hardware would be best for a new propsed Darius game?

Upgraded to 640 x 480 resolution or even higher would be nice indeed. Perhaps in 720p or 1080p format would be even better, hmmm? ^_~CIT wrote:Would have to happen on the Taito Type X2 for sure.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:What arcade hardware would be best for a new propsed Darius game?
I'm just imagining playing a new Darius game done in fancy HD on a Viewlix cab. Hmm... ^^
Both Taito and G.Rev wouldn't have to worry about their latest joint venture to make a proposed Darius sequel falling into software hackers' hands since the Taito Type X2 hardware is already heavily encrypted anyways. Wonder what it'll take to get the joint venture started? ^_~

Probably a HD remake of Darius I & II for $15 if it includes both games. Offering the PCE Super Darius/SDII tracks as downloadable extras sounds good.GaijinPunch wrote:If it comes out, it'll be a $10 download game.
Since Type X / X2 games are essentially running on PC hardware, I'm not sure if MAME is needed for them. Patching the HDD files could probably do it?
Having the G. Rev team make the game with OGR doing the soundtrack would be best. The home version could offer an optional arrange soundtrack by Super Sweep.
G.Darius is a prequel, so this one could pick up after Gaiden. Darius 4 (Darius Gaiden was originally to be Darius 3)?
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Another 5 years is my guess.PC Engine Fan X! wrote: So then it won't too long before we can play Taito Type X & X2 games on Mame/Mame32?
You still have to execute the program that handles the ROMs. Some type of emulator is needed.Since Type X / X2 games are essentially running on PC hardware, I'm not sure if MAME is needed for them. Patching the HDD files could probably do it?

How about actually utilizing HD resolution for something other than just razzing up old graphics: 320x240 x 3 screens = 960x240. That means anyone with a 720p or better TV can play 3 screen Darius at full resolution. And if you are l33t enough to have a 1080p TV, you could double that size for a nice full width 1920x480.gameoverDude wrote:Probably a HD remake of Darius I & II for $15 if it includes both games.GaijinPunch wrote:If it comes out, it'll be a $10 download game.

Anyway, I'm guessing Taito gave G.Rev a deal to make DUO on their hardware if they made a sequel to one of their shmups. That would be pretty cool.
Have you guys forgotten that Taito is now owned by Squeenix?
If there is any other Darius game, it's going to be all about a fisherman who becomes a fish one day and has to kill the Death Fish (Thiima), then he becomes the Death Fish and the only way to be free of the curse is to collect The Eight Elemental Silver Hawk Spirits, and goes all emo thinking of his estranged waifu (Sorry, UFO, had to steal that one.), and he plays a card game called Penta Lord, and finds Aqua Moogles, and there is a crossover with the Little Mermaid and...

Let's hope we don't get a Darius Tactics.Specineff wrote:Have you guys forgotten that Taito is now owned by Squeenix?

I like this idea. Actually the three screens are some odd resolution, namely 288 x 224- which triples horizontally to 864. In 720p you'd get 208 pixel borders on the sides, but this still wouldn't be too bad if you're avoiding filtering/upscaling.undamned wrote:How about actually utilizing HD resolution for something other than just razzing up old graphics: 320x240 x 3 screens = 960x240. With 1080p you'd get 288 * 6 = 1724, with 98 pixel borders - just about perfect, in 1724 x 448 (or 1724 x 672?).

We're still getting new Darius games. And by new Darius games I mean ports of Darius to phones. Taito's site mentions both Darius Gate and Darius Ocean, but they both seem to be just cell phone games ported from the original. Screenshots make them look like Darius R.
Taito seems content to milk Cooking Mama and Space Invaders games until they've completely sucked them dry. They've been doing that with Space Invaders for years, of course. I suppose there is SOME hope, as both Chase H.Q. and Legend of Kage have gotten new installments.
I also agree that G.Rev would be best suited to a new Darius game. Konami doesn't really make incredible shooters like they used to, so they called up Treasure for Gradius V. Taito should do the same with G.Rev. Phone it in to the studio best qualified for it.
Squeenix should stuff an optional under-water dungeon in an RPG and fill it with Darius fish bosses. And a Silver Hawk dungeon boss.

Seconded.GaijinPunch wrote:Then you mean 'not' games. And by new Darius games I mean ports of Darius to phones.
On an aside, the only cell phone release of a game series I've played that felt pretty much the same as the original was Gyakuten Saiban / Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. And you can probably guess why that one didn't feel much different.
