Question about Duo (hori) Spriggan...
Ok, I LOVE Compile and I have played two of their Mech-shmups: MUSHA on the Genesis, and Robo Aleste on the Sega CD.
I definately liked Robo Aleste the best, but in any case, how does DUO Spriggan compare gameplay-wise to MUSHA and Robo Aleste?

My opinion might be a little off since I prefer MUSHA over Robo Aleste, but I'd stick Spriggan somewhere in the middle. There are a LOT more weapon combinations which is more typical of Compile shooters, and the graphics are gorgeous. The music is kinda eh though.
I dunno why I prefer MUSHA more, I think the pacing overall is just a bit better and I dig the style. But you definitely can't go wrong with Spriggan.
The sequel is also pretty good but you'd barely recognize it as a Compile games.

I've played Musha, have yet to play Robo Aleste, and I have the vert Spriggan. I will mirror what most of the shmuppos will tell you about Spriggan...one of Compile's best! I love the fantasy theme and some of the propeller-driven ships are so similar to those in Mahou Daisakusen. I'm assuming a couple of the developers/Compile staff went to Raizing??? If this has been discussed and/or confirmed, I apologize for my ignorance.

AFAIK, it was posted in the old forum that Naxat released the game by themselves, since Compile refused to make a horzie, and has the credit because they created the original Spriggan, but that's it.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
(Besides, the game just feels so Un-Compile-ish)

Interesting, I'm not trying to correct you Specineff, but I don't see what objections Compile would have against making a hori-they did Gulkave, after all.Specineff wrote:AFAIK, it was posted in the old forum that Naxat released the game by themselves, since Compile refused to make a horzie, and has the credit because they created the original Spriggan, but that's it.

BTW, are there ANY replay or superplay videos of the (hori) Spriggan out there? I'm not the first one who's asked; I'm sure there are plenty of others who'd love to see some footage of this shmup in action.

I don't have any pictures to link to, but I could've sworn that, on the back cover, it had Copyright Compile on it somewhere.
There's also the Spriggan Powered game, also published by Naxat Soft, a hori shooter for the SFC. This one definitely wasn't made by Compile, and it certainly isn't very good.

Dude, don't insult Sylphia. Spriggan Mark 2 is neither rare, nor valuable, and for that matter definitely not good. The only thing the two games have in common is the disputed Compile connection.Cthulhu wrote:Spriggan 2 seems to be like Sylphia... it's a rare, valuable game that has a lot of Compile-like elements, but nobody is really sure if the game is by Compile or not. Lots of people have opinions, but I don't know if anyone knows for sure.
Umm, Spriggan Mark 2 is rare and it is valuable. It goes for 6000-7000 yen, easily. I was just talking about the uncertain Compile connection anyway.Bar81 wrote: Dude, don't insult Sylphia. I own both Sylphia and Spriggan Mark 2 and I like both of em.

$60-70 is not valuable and it's not rare. If you like it fine, but in terms of rarity and value it's not even in Sylphia's solar system.Cthulhu wrote:Umm, Spriggan Mark 2 is rare and it is valuable. Spriggan Mark 2 has Compile stamped on the case insert, the game disk, and the title screen. Compile used to have it listed on their web page before they went belly-up. As far as Horizontal games go, Compile programmed R-Type for the SMS, which turned out pretty darn good for a Master System cart.
Spriggan Mk2 is definitely a Compile game - there should be no question about it. You guys are thinking of Spriggan Powered on the SNES, which was published by Naxat but not programmed by Compile.
And I like Spriggan Mk2 better than Sylphia. So there.
