Cute sprites for shoot'em up

Post by Shatterhand »

Here I am asking for some help.

Like I've said before, I am now working as a teacher, teaching programming for 15-19 years old kids at hi-school.

In one of the classes the studends are working on pairs, making a game using Gamemaker.

One of the pairs (two girls actually) are doing a horizontal cute'em up. It wasn't my suggestion, they saw a Cotton Boomerang video at youtube while searching games to have some idea, and wanted to do something similar.

So far they are doing a pretty good job (For 2 girls who barely knew anything about coding like a couple of months ago and aren't even that interested in videogames), but they are tired to work with placehold graphics, and want some decent cute graphics to go with it.

Can anyone find rips from Cotton sprites, or any other cute'em up? I've googled for a while looking for sprites, and couldn't find any. They also have been searching and didn't find anything.

Their game is pretty chaotic at the moment, there are a HUGE amount of bullets flying everywhere... and I didn't suggest anything, it was all their idea :D. I think they need to be introduced to the concept of hitbox though :D

I would say a big thank you, and I am pretty sure you would also make two girls very happy :)

When the project is done, if they allow me, I would surely show the thing done to you guys (So you can all say how much it sux, how the score system is failed, how it's unoriginal, and how Cave is doing much better games)

Make sure to send this shizz to shoe-sama as well. :o

Also, it's pretty amazing how 2 girls could manage to make such a game at such a beginner level. I don't suppose you're teaching them GML, or are they using DnD?

GML. I see code in DnD I get all confused.

A couple of kids figured out some DnD stuff by themselves. But I've been teaching GML all along the way.

One of the pairs (Another 2 girls) are doing a Mario-kinda game with Princess Peach sprites which is looking fantastic so far.

And other duo (now 2 boys) is doing an overhead shooter which is equally incredible, you control with the keyboard, aims with the mouse.. and one of them has some good skills at drawing, so their game is the only one using original graphics.

The rest of the class isn't doing anything amazing so far... those are the projects that so far standed outt.

And yeah, I'll make everything available to download anyway.

Croikle, thanx for the link, I didn't know that site. I got some useful stuff there :D

Sounds like a cool class. Kinda wish I had access to software like GM at that age. :)

Somewhere in my archives, I've got a cute little fairy sprite that I made for a cute'em up project which never really took off. I could contribute that one, if you want.

I'll upload it when I get home from work.

EDIT: Here we go.
