I suppose it would be like someone who freely chooses to smoke knowing that it would be better not to. They think the reasons available speak decisively in favor of taking X to be better than Y, but they nonetheless like Y more.
I think most people would accept the excellence of Beethoven's music, though many of them maybe wouldn't actually claim to be fans, maybe its a bit like that? Also people can enjoy books or films that they somehow believe to be "objectively" bad which is quite weird really. I doubt it happens much with shmups though, except maybe for fans of Takumi games

Easy win for Progear. Basically, I spent a lot of time as a child stick my arms out, running around making machine gun noises, pretending to blow the crap out of tanks.
Close shaves (Boom Boom!) for Psyvariar 2, and most Raiden games.
Crap pun followed up with a vintage Basil Brush joke there for our UK members.

Hmm... personally, I'd have to go with Thunder Force V. I just felt like the game did absolutely everything right.

It was only a matter of time before someone posts a recycled shit no brainer thread like this.

Although we have quite differing opinions about the shmup efforts from DMA, I have to fully agree with Bubbles on this one.

Pretty sure Bakraid came out AFTER Batrider.

This man speaks the truth - Bakraid was 1999, Batrider 1998.
(Battle Bakraid was also the only one of the three games to be credited to 8ing, instead of Raizing/8ing, FWIW)
