A guy on a local gaming forum listed them at that price and I just happened upon em before anyone else. Paid him ASAP and got em today...local pickup. Sometimes ya get lucky!
<@scootnet> if you were a real gamer, you could jerk it to Super Metroid box art

Thanks dion. That should help out some fellow Sega PCB gamers out if they can't revive their boards. ^_~

Playing with autofire nullifies this mechanic, but is still fun to play for the 1CC. Enemy patterns are similar to Pink Sweet's score attack mode, which is why I like it.
Browsing around this forum I can't find much on Thunder Blaster/Lethal Thunder. Not even a score thread... does this game go by a different alias or was it completely missed by practically everyone?

Its... an endurance test.
Gimme 6 months with this game and i'll look like a bodybuilder.
Hard and fast button mashing all the time is fun, but destroys any dodging ability. ^^

I found its best to rest the edge of your right hand on the control panel and tap shot without the heel of your hand leaving. It makes for a good steady shot and you can kind of use your heel as a spring for tapping. If I take my hand off the console, it goes all over the place.

Given the scoring is based on how quickly you can tap the fire button, autofire pretty much nullifies playing for score...at least thats how Rob's review of it went in his hidden gems thread. So maybe thats why nobody paid this game much attention.

I think its still fun and a challenge to 1CC with autofire, and even more fun to play with 2 players without autofire in a shmupmeet type competition.

Both the JPN and USA versions of Tenkomori Shooting/Tenkomori Variety Shooting would be equally at home for a shmupmeet type competition type of deal. It, too, would easily be defeated with autofire if implemented. ^_~

The kit arrived today and I only had about 5 minutes to try it before having to head back to work.

It will see some playtime this afternoon. 8)

DFK is great, but I am also a big DonPachi fan. I would rank it a close #2 to Doj in the series, and in my top 5 favorite shooters. I have had some fun with it.

I have spent plenty of time with Deathsmiles, so i'll let you know how it compares.

how would you compare it to DOJ in terms of difficulty?

as for DS, i havent tried either version, but brendz just picked up MBL and it should be here for the meet this weekend so im very excited to get some credits on it :D

i was thinking about picking up DS MBL next anyways, but no sense having 2 copies within 15 mins of each other

im leaning towards either DOJ or galuda 2 next.....

You won't regret picking up an DDP-DOJ PCB, jonny5. It kicks my ass everytime I play it...is a nice change from the ol' usual DDP PCB. If you can find one with the cool metal case with built-in cooling fan, all the better. ^_~

Doj is quite an ass kicker. DFK is difficult, but i'd put it on par with DDP in terms of difficulty.

i enjoy games that kick me to the ground and spit on me.....it motivates me to progress.....

kinda sounds silly, but if a game doesnt completely rape me for the first little while i lose interest.....i enjoy a steep learning curve...it makes it so much more gratifying when you start to progress.....

also makes for a much higher replay value

enjoy the new game rob.....i will post back once i have played and give my impressions

I just stumbled onto this thread so i'll post my last PCB pickup.

I drove to this guys house to pick up a Death Smiles kit, and while there he gave me a Thunder Dragon PCB that he said wouldn't give out any sound. He told me he was just going to trash it as he has the game on his mame cab anyway.

I took it home, tried it out and sure enough, no sound. After having someone look at it, and asking around, I found there was actually a volume knob on the PCB itself near the heatsink. I turned it as instructed and sure enough, sound.

So in the end, I got a fully functional Thunder Dragon PCB for free. I am glad I ended up with it as I would have hated to think of the PCB getting destroyed especially knowing now that it had no issues.

In the Golden state of California, it's illegal to dump electronics with everyday trash. There are specialized E-waste collection sites to dump your electronics for recycling. Plus, if you buy a electronic related item nowdays in CA, you have to pay an E-waste fee on top of the overall purchase price total. Nice to hear that you scored a free 100% working Thunder Dragon PCB, OldSchoolGamer86. ^_~
