I can't quite make out if your comments on SMG2 and NSMBW are meant sarcastic.
However i was not exactly blown away because both don't really deliver anything
groundbreaking new stuff. SMG2 looks very nice, but too much like SMG1.
However, SMG1 was pure perfection and had incredible game- and leveldesign,
so more of the same can't hurt, i suppose.
NSFW or whatever it's called doesn't convince me though.
Because the demo-level was looking too much like it was designed with
4 (casual) players in mind, containing only huge plattforms and lots of space.
But if it ends up with decent leveldesign, it could be really interesting.

Honestly? After those almost identical two last Zeldas on the DS i don't want
to see another Zelda so soon.

Am I the only one here for whom "Run 4 Border" is the first thing that comes to my mind when I am trying to think of "that game whose title is 'something 4 something'"? Sounds like it should be a time wasting Flash minigame or something.

I can't imagine full retail games being downloadable either. I have a fast internet connection, but what about those poor rural folks, it would be faster to drive a truck 200 miles down a dirt road into the nearest city to buy a game from a brick & mortal store than it would be to download it through whatever crappy internet service they have.

I bought a retail copy of Dawn of War II for the PC recently, and was stunned that I was required to have a Steam account to install it. WTF? I bought a retail game specifically to avoid all this crap. I've kept the game but I just installed a pirated version instead since there were fewer hoops to jump through.

Steam really is a great service, it might have been crappy a long time ago when it started out but it's fantastic now. Friends lists, an in-game overlay with chatting and web browsing, and community features.

Also I wasn't being at all sarcastic, I'm one excited Wii owner right now.

I won't argue that Steam is good or bad since I haven't experienced it, it just feels entirely unnecessary for my modest needs as a strictly offline gamer and I don't agree with how I should be required to have it. I want to be able to install and play my games anywhere without needing an internet connection and without having to send my personal details all over the place.

Anyway, getting off-topic.....

This E3 has made me lose all faith in the gaming industry. As if the last one wasn't bad enough.

Once the casual train runs out of steam, and I believe it will, things are going to crash .. hard.

Let there be a crash. We have plenty of good shmups to keep us entertained while the industry recovers. If at all.

My thoughts on the Sony presentation:

1. New God of War looks very very good.
2. GT mobile is finally coming out but who the hell is it geared to?
3. The new motion stuff looks cool
4. New CGI GT5 teaser but no release date announced. Sources within Sony are saying 2010 at best.

It was a cool presentation but I was literally yelling at my screen for them to get it over with and show something ANYTHING of GT5. Of course Sony saves it for last and releases just another stupid CGI movie. However I was able to pick up from one of the scenes in the movie that a rally car took damage... Could this be a small sign that the Forza-killer is back?

How can GT be the Forza killer when GT has been around for way, way longer? I'm pretty sure it's the other way around.

Shadow Complex looks like it might be good. I’m kinda surprised that Epic is making a 2D run and gun.

Yah. it's developed by Chair Entertainment - apparently Epic bought them tiny devs and is supervising&publishing their projects.

New Final Fantasy MMO. Not chibi style.

How do they make a profit sans chibi? Perplexing :?

New Metroid trailer was goofy. What a strange idea, to get (what's left of) Team Ninja to make a Metroid game, of all things. Retro at least took care not to shit on the atmosphere of Metroid. This just looks like it's being made by people who don't know wtf Metroid is... and what's up with those story sequences? Game looks all over the place.

Other random thoughts about what I've seen:

Alan Wake looks awesome
FF IV sequel (which is out now) on Wiiware looks like the most exciting thing FF-wise (FF XIII looks CHEESY)
Milo? No thank you.
Mod Nation racing track editing looks fun, actual racing does not.
NSMB looks good, IF it is fun in single player.

I was actually excited more than I thought I'd be at this years E3.

God of War 3
Alan Wake
Metroid via team ninja... yes i excited about a 3rd person metroid made by team ninja.
Splinter Cell Conviction... so happy to see they scrapped that early stuff
Sin and Punishment 2
Mario Galaxy 2
Metal Gear on 360... only excited if it's a new game and not a port of 4
new game by the Ico team.

there were others as well.....

folks said the same about prime before it was out including me... but I was really happy with prime 1.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

You must not be a big fan of Metroid Fusion. (I actually got excited when they showed Adam in the flesh.) As for the atmosphere, I'm guessing this is a different take on the franchise as they said, but my main concern is with Team Ninja needing to increase Samus' bust size to DOA proportions (and based on the videos, so far they haven't done that), or needing to make her have forced emotional attachments. I always thought of Samus as somehwat of a mysterious, if not often loner-kind of person. I'm just hoping they don't water down her reserved personality.

In all the clips I saw of it, Samus' boobs were thankfully small, so that's not something of concern (Besides, they'd need a larger suit for DOA titties). I agree with the attachments, though. I didn't mind Adam at all, as he had a good reason for speaking to her (Being her boss for some missions), but the other guy seems to come out of left field. I like having another black guy in a video game, but I just hope they don't go over board with how many character they add.

Also, there's already speculation that the short haired woman is Samus' clone, and real Samus is the long haired one. That, and Samus is a Kamen Rider apparently.

I'm kinda worried they're using CG. Never liked CG since I think it breaks immersion. One minute you're like "wow..." the next minute it's like you're wearing shit-o-vision glasses 'cause the CG always ends up looking much better than the actual game graphics. Not to mention that the team that does CG is usually a different team from the one that does in-game graphics, making the final graphical package look like a mish-mash of different art styles. Furthermore, a solid graphics engine is needed for good cutscenes, so if the cutscenes look great with the in-game engine, it usually means that the final game will look great too. I wish devs would stop cutting corners with CG. Ugh.

Just look at games like RE4&5. Real-time cutscenes better than most CG crap and the experience is much more seamless.

There were some parts which were real-time cutscenes ("Remember me", the scene were Samus in her suit turns her head) that look about as seamless as CG, but it was hard to tell at first glance just by the way they edited the video.

The short haired woman is not a clone. Also the game takes place between Super and Fusion.

Funny thing is sentai is exactly the impression I got watching those old Japanese Metroid commercials.

My thoughts exactly; an awesome lineup of games this year! :P

BTW, do you guys think that Sony should have lowered the price of the PS3 down to $299? I guess a lot of people were disappointed that they didn't.

i think its a matter of CAN Sony afford to lower the price of the PS3, are they still taking a huge hit on each system right now?

Theres a good chance they are, otherwise I'm sure they would have. But don't fret, the year isn't over and the system has another 5-7 years of life to it. No doubt it will have a price drop eventually.

launching the PS3 for 600 was the worst and biggest mistake they ever made.

a 300 price tag at this point would be an excellent idea for everywhere but japan.. where it sells still.

Should have, yes. But the pricing strategy boat has already sailed for Sony, with a large proportion of potential customers on it.

Also Sony related, does anyone else think the PSP Go design is a bit duff?
I know by keeping the rounded edges it differentiates itself from the DS, but honestly by this stage, I wouldn't have cared: if it was DS shaped instead with that nice big screen it would have been much sexier looking.
