Game Diggin' Pt. 2 video on JPN PSN features Raystorm...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Was browsing on the Japanese Playstation Store Network site and d/l'ed Part 2 of Playstation Store's Game Diggin' video game digest magazine. It features about seven minutes worth of FMV footage of Taito's PSX Raystorm running on a JPN PS3 console. Check it out and is free for the taking. The video is presented in 640 x 480 format btw. ^_~

Hard-core shmuppers might gasp at the two featured Game Diggin' host guys credit-feeding their way through PSX Raystorm though.

Raystorm will always have a place in my heart. Don't know if it is the music or the gorgeous visuals. I have not seen this running on a Ps3 and im also not sure if i want to. Best versions are Ps1 and obviously the PCB. Taito memories is horrible. Why the had to mess with the original Ps1 code is beyond me. BTW Raystorm PSX version also plays great on a Ps2 (best ver. IMO)

I'd have to say that it's the combination of both graphics/gameplay & Zuntata's legendary BGM tunes that set the pace/tone in Raystorm.

The PCB version of Raystorm is powered by the Taito FX-1B mobo and if your candy cab does have the cool option to accept stereo input, it does output in glorious CD quality 44.1kHz sampling rate if you choose to do so. Sounds super crystal clear with both BGM & announcer/voiceover chatter playing together at the same time. ^_~

The USA region PCB of Raystorm was one of the very last arcade PCB kits to be released Stateside before Taito of Japan decided to shut down the entire Taito of America arcade division. Hence, was one of the main reasons why there never was a USA region Taito G-Net mobo (along with the compatible software for it) released in the first place that eventually superceeded the aging FX-1A & FX-1B mobo lineup. It woud've been nice to play the G-Net based Psyvariar Medium Unit/Psyvariar Revision/RayCrisis/Night Raid/Shikigami No Shiro arcade shmup titles at the USA arcades if Taito had decided to keep it's American arcade subsidairy open a little while longer. Not only that, Taito of Japan strictly wouldn't allow it's G-Net mobo to be exported to the USA anyways. ^_~

The titles you mention luckily got well deserved ports here and in Japan. Decent ports too. How i wish Working Designs was still around localizing shmups under their Spaz label.

I'm pretty sure Working Designs would still be localizing shmup titles for their shmup fanbase, assuming if they were still in business. It would've have been a no-brainer to do so along the usual WD shmup contests as well. ^_~

You might recall WD's past $10,000 Raystorm & Ray Crisis contests. ^_~
